I just don't understand the check back on the turn... I remember checking back AA on JJT6 at the WSOP and thinking I was a nit for the longest time.

JJTx board is different, that's more likely to hit villian's range. i.e J9, JQ, Jxs are all most likely to call a raise pre. Betting folds out most other hands that does not have a J or T. So checking back there on the turn provide pot-controlling and enabling you to call a river bet if he/she does have a Jx hand, and it also induces some bluffs on the river that you can get some value from.
