i think these were cheaper than base and jungle back in 2000. seem to remember these being 2.00 pound (sterling) and 2.50 for a base set. which back then and even now seems really expensive

As a old yu-gi-oh player I can promise you that you are extremely lucky and you should never buy a box again. It is cheaper to just buy the staples once and then pick up the cores as you go.
