► Have you ever wondered what happens to the last starter Pokemon? When you first start playing Pokemon, Red and Blue, when you visit Professor Oak's Lab, you get the choice of Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle. You can take one Pokemon, and your rival Blue (Gary Oak) chooses the starter that is strong against yours. But what becomes of the third?
It turns out, in the data of Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow, there is an unused fight against Prof. Oak, where he uses insanely powerful Pokemon -
Level 66 Tauros. Level 67 Exeggutor, Level 68 Arcanine, Level 70 Gyarados and finally, Level 69 Blastoise/Charizard/Venusaur.
It seems like at some point in Pokemon red and blue, Professor Oak was supposed to take the third starter Pokemon, and use it to battle against you! For some reason this fight was scrapped, however you can see him use the third starter and battle against him by doing a glitch!
Steps -
Make sure you have a Pokemon with a special stat of 226
Have a Pokemon that knows Fly
Have a Pokemon that knows Growl
1 - Do the trainer fly glitch.
2 - Fly and fight a trainer to regain menu access.
3 - Encounter a ditto, have ditto transform into your Pokemon with 226 special. Use growl 4/5/6 times, depending on which final starter evolution you want Oak to have.
4 - Fly back to the location you did the trainer fly glitch. Battle Prof. Oak!

@@whippedalcremie7718 Yea, I also think you have to reverse engineer the code to find the correct code injection via ingame inputs to get the wanted results without just crashing the game. No way someone finds out about all that just by accident. It could also be a trial and error for most of the gen1 glitches though, which had its origin in a glitch discovered randombly by just playing the game.

1) In the initial year of launch we had gameshark and gameshark codes and magazines to see new gameshark codes. All that combined let us do some wild trial and error with a lot of mixed results. 2) Sometime later we could delve more into the game as technology became more available to do so and begin reverse engineering through various means either from hardware running on the game or perhaps emulators but the technology was still new to some people or unavailable. Eventually though it became more and more common and standard as did the internet. 3) When the internet became much more common there were tools that could trace the game code (And dump all the available code into an asm file) as well as projects popping up that could take this a step further but mots of them didn't last long or get very far. Also unless you did any disassembling by hand, unused code was not in the auto dumps and any game assets weren't either. Those were only available when doing it by hand and it required some experience and lots of patience which was the point of the little projects popping up. 4) Eventually things got really sophisticated, the internet was everywhere, and all the technology was at your disposal. This is probably where we started learning the final secrets to the game. 5) Now the entire code has been completely disassembled by hand (byte-by-byte) which took years and the efforts of quite a bunch of people on a project called "pokered" available on github. All the assets, images, music, code whether used or unused. Literally any part of the game you can imagine is all right there in the open. Was a very long road but that's how we learned these glitches and hacks and stuff from initial launch to present day and it just had to do with the technology and experience available to you and when.

Actually not that hard of an answer at least in the anime. In Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon he actually uses a Dragonite... And a real one not a mirage. Well as far as I know these 2 or 3 was it? episodes are not canon but yeah that is one of his Pokemon! If I remember right it is also the only Pokemon we ever see him use in the series. Correct me if I am wrong and he uses others in the Pokemon anime. The most powerful Pokemon in the whole first game if you don't count the legendarys... Not bad Professor, not bad at all... + Dragonite can learn flying. Wasn't so sure for a moment on that so I looked it up. I would never mistreat a Dragonite with flying. Only my Crobat. But Professor Oak does whatever Professor Oak wants I guess...

I think I might know why Prof. Oak said ‘Ow! That’s tragic!’ after you beat him. The bird keeper you fought with had the same fail speech line and it might of been stored in the game’s data somewhere, waiting to be used. Since Prof. Oak’s fail speech line was probably undefined, the game might’ve used speech from the last trainer you fought, that being the bird keeper in Route 15.

Well you don't have to go through all the steps to get the glitch to happen, just the fly away from a battle part. After that you'll have an immediate encounter no matter what when you go back to Route 24 and people worked out the rest from there as to how to manipulate it to get the fight they wanted.

I could definitely see Oak being the final battle, since I also thought those last 2 rival battles were weirdly close to one another. I also think it makes sense that the more satisfying final battle is the rival. But in that case, they could’ve just made you battle Oak before the Elite Four. My theory is that Red would simply become Champion after defeating Lance. Oak walks in to take you to the hall of fame after you beat Blue at the end, but instead of doing that right away he would be the one to challenge you to one last battle It makes sense with Oak's team being so similar to Blue's and Oak not really having a good reason to be there in the final version

I think i know how this glitch works. So basically you find a trainer, fly away at the same time they spot you. Then, you're in a position where the game is about to start a battle. Do a battle, and then warp to cerulean because oak is there. The game will think it started a battle with that trainer but it doesn't because they aren't anywhere near. So it goes to oak since the professor oak battle wasn't completely out of the games code. Ez explinations. I think...

I once experienced a glitch in Pokemon Black 1 where I went on land after using surf, and during the animation where my character "jumped" on shore, an npc walked onto the same tile. The result was a really weird overworld sprite with elements from both. Iirc, the trainer sprite was layered over the npc, but the pixels from the NPC sprite that weren't also filled in on the trainer sprite, would now appear outside the trainer sprite. Haven't been able to replicate it though sadly, but this type of stuff makes me wonder if it would somehow be possible to utilise it for an intricate numbers manipulation glitch or similar.

If you have run out of trainers to battle (except the one that you trainer fly away from) you can go to the guy in Pewter City who shows you were the Pewter City museum is. Talking to him takes care of the walking animation needed to start the battle. The menu is disabled during the Trainer Fly glitch, so if you need your menu again in the middle of the glitch, change boxes in the PC to save the game. Reset the game after saving by changing boxes and you get your menu back so you can Fly. Teleport works to escape the trainer as well if you don't have Fly. Using the change box save method and resetting your game also allows you to save right before finding a Ditto that way you don't need to do the whole glitch to fight all 3 teams. You can just not save the game after the Prof Oak battle, reset the game, and then all you would need to do is growl the Ditto again. (Providing you did Trainer Fly, Pewter City museum walk, changing PC boxes, resetting the game, and then Start menu saving just before looking for Ditto of course.) I also recommend for an easier time having your 226 Special Pokemon to know no attacking moves or at least no Special attacking moves as that Ditto will hit you pretty hard otherwise.

I think this works because when you fly away from the trainer it starts to load the code that determines the battle, but once you leave the route it stops. By then doing everything you do in the video it changes variables in the code that when reloaded (by going back to the route) it spawns the battle with prof. Oak (take with a grain of salt, idk coding lol)

For all of u people asking how do people discover these glitches , they are by the developers at the early stages . MY brother is one of the developers of pokemon heartgold and he told me that sometimes they purpose fully add these glitches. And they are the first people who make these glitches public....

Protip - in case you have no more trainers to fight after the fly glitch you can do the following: 1. After flying from a trainer (Fly Glitch) go to a Pokémon Center. 2. Use your PC (for some reason the PC's still working!) and change box. Your game will be saved. 3. Reset you console/emulator. 4. Go to Fuchia City, use strength on the boulder in the wardens house and move to boulder at least 1 step. 5. Follow the rest of PokeTip's instructions.

Funny Story: I was playing Pokemon Y, and went on Route 4. There's a white flower Flabébé and I wanted it because it was SUPER rare (1% chance). My theory on Oak was that he was susposed to be an endgame trainer like Mewtwo was an endgame Legendary. Blue would lose hope in training and to show him his pokemon were not worthless he challanges you to a battle with the starter he's been secretly training his grandson's pokemon.

I'm not sure if beating the Rival instead of Oak really is more satisfying. Having to battle the person who sent you on your journey in the first place seems like a neat way to tie it all up and it seems only natural that he would have wanted to see how far you've come. I would've liked that.
