The map here is 40x30km, that is an area that covers slightly larger ground than the city of Kyiv. If you zoom that far in on sections of the western front in ww2 and let the video show 10 months that's also going to look like what is in this video. This was a 40km advance in 10 months for god's sake, there's not many examples of offensives that achieved so little in so much time in world history, there are however many examples of wildly successful fighting retreats that moved faster...

Bakhmut did happen in 2023, the correct use of the phrase would be "Avdiivka was the Bakhmut of 2024", as in Avdiivka was the battle for Bakhmut equivalent that took place in 2024. Also damn, if they are going to have one of these every year 40km away from the previous one this war sure is going to last a long time.

@@Nordska Name comes from main objective or administrative are. Pokrovsk Offensive main goal is Pokrovsk and its happening in Pokrovsk Raion. Same with Bakhmut.

The goal is still Pokrovsk but the city is a logistic hub on high ground which makes attacking to the sides of it easier than engaging directly towards the city. Also, according to both sides the Ukrainian administration in the area squandered the resources for prepared positions meaning that the surroundings are less built up than they should be.

If this time lapse is correct it shows how relentless the Russian advance is. There never seems to be a pause - days or weeks when nothing happens and no territory is gained by the Russians. The Ukrainians at least in this sector of the front seem not to have made any gains at all in almost a year. They have been on the defensive at least since the day this map starts. The Ukrainians should have sued for peace long ago. Especially if the situation on the other sectors of the front looks the same. It is foolish and criminal to continue a war that cannot be won.
