Russia has a strange culture of macho/extreme hazing/disregard for life that is hard for me to understand or explain. I am curious if that was a mine or unexplored ordinance he was trying to set off because that explosion was much larger than the yield on an antipersonnel mine (unless it detonated his block of c-4/RDX too) but not large enough and too sensitive for an anti tank mine…..

I think we shouldn't be quite so rude whenever it comes to people's lives. I'm going to keep this short or else I'm going to ramble myself into an essay, but as someone who has worked with (weaker) explosive devices before, it can be absolutely terrifying not knowing exactly when or if they are going to blow up right in your face. I am on Ukraine's side in this war, but I don't think people realize just how terrifying some of the situations are for soldiers on both sides of the war.

So wise choice would have been: stick, rock, sandbag or a bullet then a charge if it did not blow. But no just touch a motion triggered device to see if you can end your service. Smart

the sapper did live. There are photos and a video. He had at least five tourniquets on. Two pink ones on his very mangled left leg, one pink one on his right leg, one pink one on his right arm, and one green one on his left arm(there might have been two green ones). Patch on his right eye. Later there is a video of him being in what looked like a sleeping bag, but in an OPEN BED of a pickup truck, with no clothes on, and heavily bandaged. The sleeping bag is not closed it is wide open. I am sure he will NOT survive the evac to wherever he is going to be dumped at because he passed away.
