I remember the images of people taking a wheelbarrow full of German marks to buy a loaf of bread dating back to the early 1930s - the iconic photo that showed how bad Germany was having things at the time. Schoolkids in 50 years time will be shown photos of people taking a wheelbarrow full of Russian roubles to buy a loaf of bread in the iconic photo showing what Putin reduced the Russian economy to a century later. I thought we were supposed to learn from history, not repeat it.

Increases in GDP due to military spending means no real GDP increases. It is to note that the Russian budget is based on a price of oil at 70 US dollars per barrel. If the price crashes, so will the budget.
