​@rory9174 Serbian application was accepted(March 2012).However, joining into EU is a long and demanding process(divided on clusters and chapters), which in this particular case will never end, considering that no other country has been asked to give up of 12.5% of its territory(chapter 35). Probably in next 5 years will be found model that Serbia has special relations status with EU (countries) without active membership, which would be totally fine for us(Serbs).

If international law recognized Kosovo as a sovereign nation, then Kosovo would be a part of the UN. Further more, countries that constitute more then 70% of the global population don't recognize Kosovo, this includes EU member states. And even majority of those that had recognized this clear violation of the international law and UN resolution are doing it under the pressure of the US, to enable US military presence in the region, as well as a justification (excuse) for the illegal terrorist aggression of the US lead NATO on Serbia in 1999. You are correct on one thing, we are entirely unsuited to be EU members. We are not indoctrinated, gullible and entirely ignorant mass of consumers, so we really don't fit well with the EU.

As a Serbian-Canadian I am all for Serbia maintaining close ties and partnerships with the east while cooperating with the west (not to the detriment of either side though). I would definitely love for Canada to have a true leader who would return Canada to its neutral days and build strong relations with Serbia. There are many of us Serbs in Canada who love both our countries and contribute a lot to Canadian society while also preserving our unique culture. Many Canadian peacekeepers in Bosnia and Herzegovina put their lives on the line to protect and help Serb families. General Mackenzie always speaks objectively and even quite well about Serbs. I wish he would’ve become the PM at one point. Our countries can have amazing relations and they should.

Why Serbia is not in EU. Because EU want it as a man power farm and nothing else.I know this may sound very bad but if you draw a parallel between Poland and Serbia you get two opposite pictures. Poland with a long history of wars with Russia was a perfect add on to NATO and EU and for Poland Mr. Jeffry Sacks has provided through USA and IMF a huge loan to restructure its economy and of course all instruments of economic "strangulations" were not used on Poland. Serbia on on other hand never had wars with Russia, exactly opposite since Russian tsars they have provided money and support to Serbian freedom fighters school bookvars etc. So Serbia never had any reason to be against Russia. Further more during end of 80 ties and beginning of 90 ties when Yugoslavia was in need of economic IMF boost ( credit) no credits were provided and all possible economic "strangulations" tools were used first against Yugoslavia and after against Serbia. Why ? Because Serbia was not fitting in as a friendly country to Russia ( its too much of general conclusion but to make it more in depth id need a whole book). This ring around the rosy that Mr Vucic is trying to play actually trying to play a pale copy of Josip Broz Tito is just a buying of time. Europe is poor and all Europeans have squandered its geopolitical position, resources and technological know how too easy. Also EU and USA market is puny comparing w rest of BRIKS

Poland has prospered thanks to EU donations, not real economy. There is no real polish product, big western corporations are holding everything there. As someone who very well know both countries, it seems that Serbia without EU slowly but surely gets better and better than Poland. BTW i do not beleive in East or West, that is old concept, they all work together under big institutions like one in Davos. There is global digital stuff going on both in the east or west, it is a world of private entities vs. ordinary people and classic governements.

What Serbian Government is trying to do is "sit on both chairs". Maintaining good relationships with both west and east. This diplomatic approach was used since Yugoslavian times. Yugoslavia signed the Helsinki Treaty. A country cannot be divided as long as it is part of this Treaty with two exceptions: 1. If all parties of that country agree (like in Czechoslovakia). 2. The country is dissolved and any part can ask for independence (as happened with the USSR). Unfortunately for Serbia, Yugoslavia sized to exist and ANY region if Yugoslavia could ask for independence (like Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia etc). Only if Ukrainia dissolves than Crimea could ask legally for independence and in this case would be the same situation as between Serbia and Kosovo. Crimea had this opportunity when the USSR dissolved but they voted in a Referendum to be part of Ukraine.

The EU is not a charitable society, but an economic and political association with its own rules. Nobody is forcing Serbia (or Hungary or Slovakia) to join or stay in it. The problem is that Serbian society is not ready for such a transition and will not be for a long time. These people do not understand at all that the meaning of the EU and erasing state borders between member countries is precisely to avoid those eternal wars for territories that have lasted throughout European history. Serbia is the only country in Europe (along with Russia) that has a colonial political concept of spreading in to neighboring countries (perhaps you have heard of the term "Russian world", but there is also "Serbian world", an identical scientifically and culturally unfounded bunch of nonsense with only one goal - destabilization of neighboring countries, primarily Bosnia, Kosovo and Montenegro, but also Macedonia). Serbia's possible entry into the EU is a problem, not a solution. Vucic is no less a dictator than Lukasenko, and the Serbian public is haunted by the frustrations of constant failures and the cheap, almost medieval idea that Serbia is the victim of all possible conspiracies, and not of its own failures. Such a Serbia must undergo a comprehensive social transformation just to be able to understand what the EU is. One of the main reasons why Slovenia and Croatia left Yugoslavia was precisely that they no longer wanted to pay for the development of other republics like Serbia, and for almost 50 years without any results. How right they were is best seen today when Slovenia is 3 times more developed than Serbia, and Croatia 2 times. In Yugoslavia, this difference was smaller for the reasons mentioned above. The EU must first and foremost protect the surrounding countries from Serbia, and not constantly push them into the same basket with Serbia.

Poland , Romania and Bulgaria are not in EU because "European values" or "implementing EU rules". -They are accepted in EU because their border is close to Russia. Kosovo is another question : - If for example NATO bombed Krakow and gave Krakow region to for example Slovakia and expel Polish people from that region I doubt that Polish people will be eager to join NATO or EU ever. That is what they (NATO and EU) did to Serbs on Kosovo.
