The "realities on the ground", Putin: (1) You invaded a sovereign, neighbouring country. (2) Your forces are still there, illegally occupying foreign territory. It is not Russian territory, despite your fabrications to that effect. (3) International law demands that your forces should leave that territory. (4) Every day, your forces are suffering losses of 1500+ soldiers killed, wounded or captured. (5) Every day, your forces are losing tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery, etc, in numbers which are unsustainable, and your arsenal is severely depleted. (6) Every day, the cost to Russia increases, bringing your economy closer to collapse. (7) Every day, your war (for that is what it is) is killing Russia, little by little. (8) The longer this goes on, the greater the damage you will have inflicted on your own country. (9) You're digging yourself into a hole, Putin, so the reality on the ground is that your best course of action is to recognise the real realities on the ground and stop. For the sake of your own people...

"...about as threatening as an umbrella in a rainstorm..." Ah! But don't forget the Georgi Markov case, where an umbrella with a poisoned tip was used to deliver a fatal dose of ricin. The Russians know an umbrella is something which seems innocuous, but which makes a very useful weapon!
