Exactly, polar bears rely on seasonal sea ice thin enough for seals and sea lions to make breathing holes or break up to form ice flows. Then in the summer, the sea lions and seals bask on land so the polar bears hunt on land. They don't need year-round glacier ice. They would starve to death on the glacial ice fields.

30% DECREASE IN BEARS IN BEAUFORT SEA "In recent years, polar bears in the Beaufort Sea have had to travel far outside of their traditional arctic hunting grounds which has contributed to an almost 30% decrease in their population," according to a study by Washington State University, as reported in Science Daily, Dec 14, 2021. The bears have been forced to move further and further north as the southern ice continues to melt away. POLAR BEARS IN BAFFIN BAY SKINNIER, HAVING FEWER CUBS DUE TO LESS SEA ICE That's according to satellite tracking and visual monitoring of bears by the University of Washington, as reported in Sci Daily, Feb 12, 2020. SOUTHERN HUDSON BAY BEARS DECLINE 17% The last survey of southern Hudson Bay bears by Obbard et al of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry found a 17% decine in adults and a 50% decline in yearlings. ---Arctic Science, May 31, 2018 HUDSON BAY BEARS OVERALL DOWN 30% Hudson Bay had over 1200 bears in the 1980s but just 800 today, according to the most recent counts. (Source: Phys.org, Sep 29, 2022) POLAR BEARS FINDING IT HARDER TO CATCH ENOUGH SEALS TO MEET ENERGY DEMANDS More than half of the bears studied by the University of California at Santa Cruz, 'were running an energy deficit" and "were losing hody mass." ---Sci Daily, Feb 1, 2018. ON DENIER POLAR BEAR BLOGS AND THEIR MISINFORMATION "We found a major gap between the facts from scientific literature on the one hand, and the opinions aired in climate-change denying blogs on the other," says Jeff Harvey from the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW), which studied polar bear misinformation across the internet. (Sci Daily Nov 29,, 2019) "It's a very dangerous gap, as these blogs are read by millions." The researchers analysed 90 climate blogs in total, alongside 92 scientific papers on the subject. Although 45 'denier blogs' claim to be based on science, they failed to overlap with the peer-reviewed evidence in the papers. Instead, they relied mostly on other denier blogs. And eighty percent relied on one blog in particular, whose author, says Harvey, "had neither conducted any original research nor published any articles in the peer-reviewed literature on polar bears." Bears around the Chukchi Sea, by contrast, are reportedly doing well, as this is an exceptionally rich area in seals. Bears in northern regions, such as in northern Greenland, are dong better than bears living around melting southern ice The polar bear population grew because we had previously SHOT THEM ALL IN THE 1950S AND 60S. Now that we're not doing that anymore, the population is increasing. Take note that the environment and animals do better when we take action to ward off disaster.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service and the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group, in their 2023 reports, failed to officially acknowledge the new-found South-East Greenland population as the 20th subpopulation, despite undisputed evidence this is a genetically distinct and geographically isolated group. The satellite data for the north pole has been collected since december 1972 but the 'official' record didn't start until 1978/1979. The reduction in polar bear numbers was largely due to the unrestricted hunting of bears for trophies and rugs. Once the industry became regulated bear populations rapidly recovered because they are exquisitely adapted to their environment. They can easily swim 30 miles, and the longest recorded swim is thought to have been 220 miles. The bears can easily migrate as needed, to find food and suitable habitat, and hibernate during the coldest periods. They thrive and fatten up during the warm periods when the ice breaks up and recedes. The exact opposite is likely true, they would benefit the most from a warming climate as their range would expand.

So many that they have a special drill thay go through when theyare sighted rummaging through the facilities and towns . Turns out that polar bears prefer less ice, as it forces their prey to the beaches, where it's easier hunting. It's hard work swimming up to an ice flow, then propelling ones' self up out of th ewater to MAYBE catch a seal. Once in the water, that seal is safe. But on the beach, it's chow. And that emaciated bear in National Geographic? Turns out it was a staged photo stunt by the "journalist photographer" to support the Green Agenda. The team followed thatbear for weeks, taking pictures of it while it starved, eventauilly dying a natural death by disease. Even though the scandal broke, NG did not fire that journalist for months - presumably until after he/she got a better gig somewhere.
