If you look at the screenshots before the video clips of the watches, you’ll see that both recorded 3.5 miles. It was 5 miles that was on the treadmill - I don’t generally run at a 10 minute per mile pace. The watches can be set to KM or Miles and I have the M set to miles and the V set to KMs.

I've owned and used both the Vantage V and V2 and while the V2 has certain advantages, it has a huge disadvantage for me. For some reason, it doesn't allow reporting out with any accuracy of pool lap information (total yards and time is more or less accurate). I tried to look at the CSV file to discern if this is a reporting issue (maybe), but I know for sure the V gave me the laps, lap times, rests, all with pretty good accuracy. That information is junk when coming from the V2 and unusable. I don't think this is a user error. Any insight here?

1) Can you track running PB's for 5k, 10k, ... in the polar flow app or website, or in both or none of those? I heard earlier this wasn't possible but this seems real strange for high end gadgets / software. 2) What are the options to get audio cues about running pace, distance in realtime while simultaneously listen to spotify with bluetooth earbuds? Do the audio cues come from the polar flow app on the phone then or from the watch? Thnks for clarifying, on the edge of buying but those are important issues to me.

I am torn between the Polar Ignite and Polar Vantage M (similar price) Ignite has a better brighter display but looks like you can't turn that thing off, for the 24/7 sleep monitoring thing -which I think would disturbb me at night whilst trying to sleep and its touch -I'm not bothered about touch or real buttons -Its to use in strength training, cardio, home workouts, walkings (outdoors) cycling in doors in gym, occasional outdoor cycling and runs occasional (though I you never know!), no triathlon, no swimming - what would you recommend? @galzeidman4 жыл бұрын
Mr Des sir, your timing could not have been better. I've been debating between the polar ignite, the polar vantage m, and the garmin forerunner 245 music for the past week. After reading direct comparisons and watching many reviews, I still cannot decide. My only experience with anything remotely similar is the xiaomi mi band 3 (as a general activity tracker and for runs, using my phone’s gps), which i like a lot, but is obviously not in the same league, so any feedback from you (or any other follower with experience on the subject) will be much appreciated. My thoughts regarding the two polars: They seem identical to me in terms of features. My main sports are running and basketball (only running for now, but when the corona situation is over, I’ll be back to the court with a vengeance), and the fact that they both have a basketball profile (built into polar flow) seems to me like a very big advantage over the 245 (I understand the 245 has a custom profile, and you can also download additional profiles from the store, but will they be as accurate?). I’m also quite intrigued by the workout recommendations and especially by the superior sleep tracking and analyzing. My sleep has been very bad for years, and I’m hoping maybe I’ll be able to make some improvements with polar’s help. The ignite is smaller, with an 8.5 mm thickness compared to 12.5 mm on the vantage m. The mi band 3 is quite similar to the vantage m in terms of thickness, at 12 mm, and while I have no issues playing basketball with it, 8.5 mm sounds like it could make a nice upgrade. On the other hand, like the mi band 3, the ignite is raise to wake, which i don’t like, as long as there is a delay between raising your hand and it actually waking. More importantly, it has a touch screen, and almost every article or video mentions it is not very comfortable to use. The vantage m eliminates both issues, and honestly I would be happy to pay the ~40 usd more that it costs where I live, if the ignite’s touch screen really is that bad. And now for the forerunner 245 music. IT. HAS. MUSIC. That is huge for me. I run with music, I do shooting practice with music, I would play with earphones on in games as well, if that was an option. Music helps me perform better and push myself to my limits. I have full playlists on spotify called Running # and Basketball # that i have created over the years. The thought of not having to carry my phone on me when I run is enough to make the 125 usd difference between the vantage m and the 245 music seem negligible. I run several times a week (even when basketball is not shut down by epidemics), with lots of quick, short intervals, sprints and such, but I’m not sure the advanced running dynamics on the 245 will make a big difference for me. So apart from the music, I trust the three of them would give me more or less the same experience during the runs themselves? (I know I could probably go for the slightly cheaper vivoactive 4, but the forerunner wins the touchscreen argument the same way the vantage won over the ignite). I should mention that I do not care at all for phone notifications and such. I guess it comes down to this: i understand the polar watches use all the info they collect to provide you with better insights and advice than garmin's, specifically nightly recharge and fitspark. They also have the built in basketball activity profile. Are these benefits worth, from your experience and in your opinion, more than the ability to use the watch as a music player and leave my phone at home? Or are they, at the bottom line, more of an added gimmick to products that in general provides similar user experience (in which case the forerunner is the obvious choice for me). Please note that i don’t mean ‘worth’ as in monetary value, since i am much ready to pay the price for the more expensive 245, but rather in terms of better user experience and the ability to draw more benefits from the product, considering my personal needs. Thanks a lot for all the videos and reviews, Gal

Now, you know that I am a Garmin fan from the DCR events.. but, this Corona has me re-evaluating stuff.. yes, my fenix 6prosapphireorwhateverversionthatis is a better watch.. but how much will I miss it?. What will I miss? I will miss the sapphire safety net and bigger screen for my old eyes.. but.. I think the polar screen might be a bit better. I never use music on my watch as I always take my phone with me for safety, I tend you use my phone for maps, I never change watch face, and only use one widget (the loyalty card one) and Garmin pay doesn't work with my banks here in NL.. so what will I miss? The price difference is huge now.. and maybe.. I am paying for stuff I never use? 🤔.. is this watch enough for me to leave the Garmin ecosystem? (I used polar throughout the 90s and early 00s.. and the polar flow calendar was instantly recognisable.. that is both a good and bad thing I suppose)

I've been gone from the Fenix 5+ to the Forerunner245 to the Instinct and the Running Power via Stryd is the only thing I'm somewhat missing. You seem to win plenty of things, Waye! ;) It's interesting that you mention simplicity. Just like you, I tend to carry my phone with me on almost all activities, for safety, so a lot of the "other" features can be redundant at times. It's no question that Garmin has nearly every feature under the sun, which can be good because they can appeal to a huge audience, but at the same time, paring everything down to just what you need, as a training tool, has something to be said. Hope to see you soon!

Hey I'm stuck! I've watched tonnes of your videos and DCR's too. I can't decide on which sports watch to get. I currently have the Garmin 734 but the optical HR is horrible for the activities I do. I play about 10 hours tennis a week. My heart rate goes up to 182bpm and then drops between rallies. Optical HR doesn't measure that at all. I'm alo so suspicious about the step count during tennis. Same inaccuracy for my strength training and yoga. Which Optical HR watch would you say is the most accurate for those activities. I don't run, swim or cycle. Based on your reviews I'm thinking Fitbit charge 4, ionic or Vivosport 4. I can't get apple watch because I don't use iPhone. So need the most accurate optical sensor watch that gives lots of data like recovery and sleep.
@DesFit4 жыл бұрын
The step count on Fitbit devices is exaggerated, to put it lightly. I'd check out a new Garmin device but the only thing I would say is that an activity like tennis will pose a challenge for most wrist based optical heart rate sensors since there is a lot of arm movement and wrist flexion. Could be a challenge for any watch. Thanks!

Polar is better. The only negative thing that stands out to me is it wont record your sleep if its not at least 4 hours but, when it does record it appears to be spot on(the time I fall asleep and the time I wake up). From my experience with Garmin (vivosmart 4), one time said I woke up at 10am but I had been working since 7am. That was the worse case for me but for the most part it was ok but not on the level of Polar or fitbit. when you use a chest strap, do you get feedback from the chest strap and the wrist or just the chest strap?
@DesFit4 жыл бұрын
Chest strap, that’s the same on all devices if you have an external HR sensor paired.

My sleep tracking is consequently wrong, saying that I wake up 1-3 hours before I actually do. Been using the vantage V for two months now does anybody have the same problem or any way to solve this?

Can you pair your airpods pro with the watch while also having the chest strap?

You can’t pair headphones to these devices.

Watch face is flat. Is the glass scratch resistant?
@DesFit4 жыл бұрын
The Vantage V and V Titan have Gorilla Glass. The Vantage M is just a coated lens so that could be more susceptible to scratches.

Does anyone have huge issues with swim distance recording for OWS?
@csk2173 жыл бұрын
Do any of these let you listen to music as well?
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
Polar watches currently don’t have any music storage or playback capabilities on the watches themselves. Some of the newer models have a music widget that allows you to control the music that’s playing on your phone.

has anyone ever used this watch (vantage M) to swim in a pool? how did It does?

Loved it.The only wearable tracker I have is a polar OH1, planning to add a sports watch soon. For treadmill running, one device was showing distance in km and other in miles, although the data was almost same. Your arm based HRM link takes to wahoo ticker chest based HRM link. I have always felt polar calculates calories burnt a little bit on higher side particularly in first 2 zones, any thoughts?
@DesFit4 жыл бұрын
The OH1 is actually the other optical arm HRM I trust, quite a bit actually! Yes, I had the V Titan set to KM and the M set to miles on the watches themselves, but had the Polar Flow app set to miles. I’ve actually felt Polar devices to calculate calories about right, maybe sometimes a little low, but that seems rare.

Sluggish operation, have owned Polar products for many years (I have a Poler system, cycle computer, scale etc.) the biggest issue with Polar is they are very quick to drop support for its product and move onto the next best thing. They are no longer going to add and features to the Vantage range, they’ve completely dumped their V650 which is supposed to be their premium offering, Scale no longer supported on Vantage (you have to sync with app, V800 synced direct), just a few examples.

Thanks @burtonBG
@sekil754 жыл бұрын
@@burtonBG Are you referring to 5.1.4? Afaik, it's a bug-fix update. As an M owner, I can say that things have been better since March 2019 when I bought it, but far from perfect. GPS and HR especially have improved, but I can say that they were very problematic in the first place. Vantage V owners seem to how much more issues with GPS, btw. Also, somehow my new Garmin bicycle Speed sensor don't work reliably with the watch, who knows if ever. All in all, it's not perfect, but it is ok.
@fredrik79224 жыл бұрын
@@sekil75 You should use Polar speed sensor with Polar Vantage series of course. Not Garmin speed sensor that is not supported.
@sekil754 жыл бұрын
@@fredrik7922 By that rational I should get a Garmin watch too. That's not really true or meaningful. I don't like Garmin watches/HR straps, I like Polar more. Also, I don't like Polar bike sensors or GPS units (two year or so outdated) but Garmin ones (Garmin is much better for cycling, dual BT/ANT+ etc/). I think that sensors in 2020 are hardly a complicated thing to make it work in-between vendors. So, it is hardly my fault not going with all Polar or all Garmin. It's easier for a vendor to say "not supported", when in fact nobody wants to do proper compatibility. Polar could just enable ANT+ in its watches, like it did for HR straps, and probably fix my issue.
