I'm rewatching TAOPAP right now at 40. When I started the first episode, I had forgotten that this song was the theme song. When the song came in, it literally took my breath away. All these indescribably thoughts and feelings of my youth came flooding in. Things that are neither time not place nor person, just a feeling deep within. The ability of this song to do that is incredible. Pure, uncut, artisanal nostalgia.

It's the 90s, you just watched "Hey Dude!" and "Salute your Shorts" and up next is "Pete & Pete", it's the end of August and you go back to school a week and a day from today. Your friend knocks on the door and your mom calls for you. You tell your friend "Sure, but let's watch Pete and Pete first", you watch Pete and Pete and then go for a bike ride. You come home and go to bed not realizing these are the best days of your life.

It's hilarious because these songs aren't necessarily "child appropriate". Just look at the lyrics to this song: >Hey smilin' strange >You're lookin' happily deranged >Could you settle to shoot me? >Or have you picked your target yet? What's even better is the song Summerbaby, which they devoted an entire episode to: >If you seen all I done >When I'm alone I do things that nobody knows >Every drop of sex, every little mess I've made >I was around, I was around It's a song about jerking off to the thought of a girl during the summer. "I was around" = "I came" This is why I love The Adventures of Pete and Pete :)

This is the theme to the entire 1990s. You can't convince me otherwise. It's a beautiful-sounding song about a sad and longing subject matter which reflects the wonder years of growing up in that decade. I was only 5 when the 1990s ended, but for me in hindsight, it was a time of hope, innocence, and yet my older cousins and siblings were bitter. Objectively speaking, the 1990s must have been a wonderful time to come of age. The economy was good, qualify of life was modern, there were no 2008s or 2020s to take your job away, radio music was awesome. Heck, America still felt like the #1 country in those days and people were free from worries of nationwide problems (outside of the rare, rare, rare school shooting or whatever). The biggest controversy of that day was whether Bill Clinton told a single lie about his adultery! Granted, I was hardly self-aware when the 1990s were still going on, so maybe I'm wrong about all this, but it seems like people really took the 1990s for granted.

@otyugramedia98472 жыл бұрын
@@leecarterreppinjesuschrist7686 That's certainly one of the issues. And it's another thing people take for granted: people want to live in a world in which most of their neighbors are Christian but they don't want to be Christian themselves. They're seeing what a disgusting place Earth becomes when we abandon self-discipline, selflessness, wholesome community, and the humility to worship our creator. I looked closer at the numbers and it turns out school shootings were more common in that decade than I gave credit. Apologies to anyone who knew a person shot or traumatized by those horrid events.

The fact that the lyrics are mostly unintelligible is genius because it mimics what it is like to be a kid and how kids will talk in an almost alien language that only they can understand

A generation born between a memory of what was and the dream of a bright future...only to have it all crash down on us. We were the last generation to remember the before times...we were old enough to watch the wall fall but young enough to still believe in a better future. Then well...yeah the light at the end of the tunnel was the 00 express train to the suck.

Man, I had this song as a cassette single that I played over and over and over. Even though it was on Nickelodeon, I watched it faithfully even as a teenager because some of the humor was deeper. Gen X stuff right there.

This is easily one of the best and most memorable and most memorable themes of any TV show. It didn't reference the show in any form, it didn't hint at the theme of the show, and it didn't sound like a song for a TV show. It didn't have to. It was iconic. Whenever anybody who is familiar with it hears the opening chords, we know what it is. Despite the target audience for the show being kids, Polaris' soundtrack for the show was real music, and it made us feel like adults. It didn't talk down to us kids, it made us feel valued and relevant. I turned to 90's on 9 on Sirius a week or so ago, and this was playing. It's still in my music playlist and has been for years, despite whatever else cycles in and out. I don't know if Mark and the rest of the band realize this, but they influenced an entire generation, and left an impression that none of us will ever forget.

I know most people get nostalgic for their adolescence, but I really believe there was something different about the 90’s. This was the golden age of Nick, there hasn’t been anything like it since. Even my teenage boys would rather watch Pete & Pete than what’s currently out there for their age group.

absolutely Brother, i think i rewatched the show a few years ago, that moment when you remember the, or one of the best shows ever made, its amazing, i loved watching pete & pete as a kid, i was born 1991, in austria, and i guess the german dub came right in time for me as a little kid to enjoy this show, at the right time and the right place, i love all the comments under pete & pete related videos on youtube, such an awesome "fanbase"

longtime fan of pete and pete. small but important body of work. when the expanded adventures came along, it was big. the theme song quickly became an important part of the ritual. i can remember many a sprint to the television set, remember the feel of the buttons, remember wishing the channels would change faster, remember those times i missed the first few seconds of the song. it made hearing the whole song that much sweeter when sometimes i did. i guess i can see now it wasn't really the whole song, but how was i to know? what was this secret band? did it actually come from a secret pocket universe where pete and pete actually lived? who were they? how did they manage to get that sound out of somebody's lawn? and what the heck were they saying? maybe the name of the band was in the closing credits, and perhaps i became aware of it for short moment way back when, but it was something that i only very dimly remembered. i think i finally had to look it up on wikipedia, but finding it there did not demystify it for me, and i remained essentially perplexed. today, by pure chance, i ran a search for "pete and pete" and accidentally landed in the polaris motherlode. the confusion persists. by the time i clicked on "hey sandy," i was only guessing snarkily at the "pete and pete" title theme title, and i still have my doubts as to what is being sung, even though i can remember when pete and pete were just in-between shows on nickelodeon. "the farther one travels, the less one really knows."

Long live the Bliss of our childhood days. The days of good quality TV & not a care in the world. Our generation enjoyed the simple (low tech) things in life, This song will forever be my childhood anthem even though this wasn't my favorite show. Fellow time travelers, it's 2019 and i just turned 31, hopefully i'll come back to this song in a few years and relive the magic. Have fun, greatest generation, stay young forever!

Early 90s Nickelodeon was so full of passion projects that resonated with the time and the young audience. Trying to be rich and famous was a goal but not the main priority. I believe they truly wanted to entertain us.
