(For other people viewing this) Another standard thing is once it cranks, do not touch the throttle for a few moments until it idles on choke pretty smoothly. Then turn the choke off. I also had a different and very strange issue with my 2005 Predator 50 - ran perfect on Tuesday. No one touched it overnight (I live alone.) But only a few hours later, it would crank, run for 3 seconds and die. Crank, run for 3 seconds and die. Had fresh fuel, new carburetor, petcock is fine, new spark plug, even new exhaust crush gasket, everything perfect (because it ran perfectly just 10 hours prior with same setup). Well, strangely enough - and I found this from another Predator 50 owner online - the issue was in the spark plug wire and boot at the spark plug itself. Even though all of this wiring "looked" fine, with the engine running, if you touched the plug wire at that rubber boot area - it would zap the crap out of you. I know I know, you think the wire is frayed or damaged. Nope - it looked perfectly fine. Well, I screwed the wire into the plug socket a little better, also applied electrical tape around the plug boot and socket area, even TRIMMED the flange of the rubber boot - problem solved. You want to talk STRANGE!?!?!?!?!? And I have been working on my own vehicles of all shapes and sizes for 30 years - never have I seen something like this. On a different note, with any dirtbike, atv, lawnmower, whatever, if you use the vehicle regularly, there is no need to turn off the petcock IF YOUR CARB is serviced and clean and the carburetor's float mechanism is proper and correct. Because fuel will not continue to flow IF your float is correct. Now, if you have children who like to "play" with the throttle and "hit the gas" while the motor is off - and all that, I can see it, but otherwise, shutting off the petcock shouldn't "have" to be done if your carburetor is serviced and maintained properly. Proper float height also makes these things crank and idle even better. Check your service manual for the setting. Made a HUGE difference in mine - especially if you install one of those "imported" aftermarket carbs - which works perfectly fine - but the float height was incorrect.

Just curious if you tried the same starting sequence but without the 3 blips of the throttle? Without a 'pump' inside the carb it makes no sense why blipping the throttle would do anything.

It definitely doesn’t make sense, I tried a ton of different sequences over a week period, tried without throttle blips, no start. I was just glad to find a way for my buddy to get it started for his kids, can’t explain it.

Thanks for the video but correct me if I’m wrong please. Hitting the throttle 3 times does not do anything for Venturi carburetor. The cranking of the engine creating a vacuum into the intake is what pulls the fuel into the combustion chamber right??? Ohh I get it this was a trick video to see if anyone was paying attention, right. Good game one buddy. I almost fell for it. 😉

Richard J Fury sometimes you just gotta throw conventional wisdom & facts out the window to find a system that works, in this case this method saved this family a lot of frustration, even though technically it may not make sense.

Hey I have this exact four wheeler and I’ll warn you I have no idea what I’m talking about but It will start and everything but it sounds really clanky and my atv will not move like at all and I can spin the wheels with my hands so the breaks aren’t locked up and also the chain is not moving or anything like that so do you think it’s my transmission? Or like a carburetor problem. And idk if this will help or not but it started doing that right after I went over a snow drift and I couldn’t get over it so i kept flooring my atv

I have a question on the fuel. When you refuel do have to put oil on the side of the tank?

@@kcoutside7143 I have a 2007 predator 50 they told me it was 2 stroke but I cant find the tank under the seat. What I been doing is adding oil in the fuel tank

machuqista22 some folks remove the oil tank & pump, then just mix gas in fuel can (like 40:1)then pour directly into gas tank.

That I can’t answer, it was a friends ATV. I never did a top speed run. I would guess 25-30mph.

Most have issues with these because the VALVES are too tight!
