2023 here. Just purchased the exact model, color and plow last year used. First snow you get in a rush and push the blade up when it is already up and that rod that is supposed to keep your wench from pulling it back will snap the cable. Took it in to have the cable fixed and they pulled off that rod. The service people said they have an entire drawer full of them and never put them on the plow

Thanks for this. I just bought a 2020 Polaris Sportsman 450 with the plow kit and winch. Great to see just how easy it is to hook up and especially how easy it is to turn the blade to different angles. WOW. In the past I was using a 2001 Polaris Magnum 325 4x4 with a Moose plow set up. Hooking up the plow was a pain and changing the angle of the plow was the worst! So psyched!

I went with a Denali plow for affordability, it's heavy but totally indestructible. And it's a mid mount system rather then front mount to keep the plow angle more perpendicular to the frame at all lift angles. $360 for a 60" shipped is hard to beat. It's just heavy vs your glacier plow. Look at some photos of the Denali, 1/4 plate cross bracing all the way across the blade. You'd bend the frame before the blade!

I have a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 700 with a Warne winch and plow i have been plowing my neighborhood with for 16 years. 2 miles of road and 11 long driveways. I have never broken anything on that machine. I have never asked for a dollar because I love doing it. I just do routine maintenance and use nonethonal fuel. Still running the original tires and i never use chains.

I put this same rig on my 2018 Ace 570. I'm into my 2nd winter with it. Haven't had a single problem with it yet. The deepest snow I've plowed with it was probably 10 inches. Handled it fine.

I just installed one today on my 850, you have to push the red handle down to lock it in, then lift up and pull to release it, the red bar pushes in and down between the 2 white spacers to lock, I had to adjust mine from factory to work right using the locknut on opposite end of red handle

This plow works great , red handle comes up moving heavy snow all ways check ! Also went to 1/4” synthetic Line ! I do not have Auto shut off on winch and snapped stock cable twice , also have Rubber stopper , works killer now, my 2018 red handle on plow is Horizontal not Vertical like yours , easy on and off for me at age 62 , tks

I've noticed what you're talking about, with the release rod possibly popping up (thereby unlocking) when there's dense snow beneath. I am thinking about finding a suitable way to hold it down on my rig, because I have experienced the plow coming off unexpectedly twice over the course of two winters. It might also be nice if Polaris had somehow shielded the mechanism at the rear that locks into the frame at the back. The red rod interconnects with a pivoting tooth system, and it could be bumped (hence bumping out the lock teeth) if you were reversing the ATV while the red release handle were in the "up" position (or even with the length slightly misadjusted, allowing for movement). I might put a flat piece of plastic across there, attached with cable ties, just as a light shield.

I use a little piece of wood it stops the red handle from moving and works great.

Just need to adjust your play on the red handle. Needs to be set so no play and locks hold tight. Wind it in till tight and wind out a little and tighten rear nut. Handle should sit horizontal. 😉

The red handle needs to be pushed DOWN to loch blade in place. UP to release.
@StrikeMike2k

You actually want to push that red handle DOWN to lock the mount in place. In the video you were making sure it's "UP" which is not locked.

You could hook up the winch first and use it to lift the bracket and kind pull forward at the same time to get it hooked up it looks like. It would be nice not to have to get on the ground and putz around just to get it hooked up. Kind of like the old style drive up and hook up

I see the changed the release handle design (red one). Mine is off the left side, not in the center like this newer version. Don't like the new one at all, I can see where it could get hung up, etc.

I've seen the previous two revisions of the attach/release system, and I'm glad I have the version shown in this video. It's MUCH more sturdy. When I bought my rig in December 2016, a service rep at the dealership where I got mine showed me several of the old broken ones that just weren't meaty enough, and/or simply broke at the welds, bent because of wimpy release rods, etc. There are several videos on KZbin showing people's woes with the old versions. This one comes to mind: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3ikgaebgNZkqJI Those were from the roughly the 2013-2015 range of years. Obviously Polaris felt it was necessary to keep going back to the drawing board with the Glacier plow mount latch & release designs, but I'm hopeful they've got it right this time. They really should have torture-tested the earlier versions more. Quality control also seems to have been a problem, as the welds often looked quite weak and were on one side of a rod-to-plate intersection when they should've been welded on BOTH sides. 3 seconds of work could've saved some of those broken mounts!
@floobertuber
@floobertuber 6 жыл бұрын
Oh, as an additional aside: The way they have the handle oriented (with the "dip" pointed down) isn't a requirement. Mine for example, is adjusted to be horizontal and should not snag. I'm not sure why they chose to orient theirs like that. It can be rotated/adjusted as you like. There's threaded insert with a locking nut that allows you to adjust the length of the red release rod and its orientation.

I'm wondering if there would any issues with rust if it was introduced to salt from road plows on both the machine and plow? They use tons of salt in Central New York where I live.
@FunOutDoors
@FunOutDoors 5 жыл бұрын
Where ever the paint gets scratched off will ultimately rust and salt would make it worse I'm sure. If that would bother you, you could hit the wear spots with some black rustoleum at the end of the season. That might help.

Do your hands warmers go off automatically? Mine did on my current quad and my last one. So annoying. I want them to stay on steady like my trucks steering wheel. I’m thinking of putting on a second set over the first set this way when it goes off I can put the other one on and keep rotating them. New grips too that will allow two sets of these

Please reply with ideas to keep plow from popping off, I have bungied the handle and tried rope and zip ties. If you are the least bit aggressive, as plowing sometimes requires (We get 13" in 24 hours where I live. The plow has popped off multiple times and cable has broke twice.

My father was having that issue at first also. He found out later he wasnt latching it correctly from the bottom. I'm not sure the specifics, but it wasnt until he took it to the dealer that he learned the correct way? Could that be your problem?

GeneralMX, bigger can definitely be better, especially if your snows are predominantly the powdery type. A rubber top flap will help keep the snow from "flowing" up and over your blade, too. However, I would caution that if you get a lot of wet, heavy snows, that's another 8" wide of dense snow you have to push. Just something to consider.
