I have always loved Dave Edmunds. He is an extremely talented musical artist. I saw him perform live in L.A. many moons ago. Hot damn can he play guitar!!! Heard he has retired from touring and live shows. Hopefully he is still creating music. The music world would be very sad without Dave Edmunds. All the best to him!

@katherenewedic8076 Singling out Dave in that respect borders on the absurd. Unless you’re prepared to start your list with The Beach Boys, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones - who were all following the trail Chuck blazed at least a decade earlier than Edmunds or Lowe.

Here in Sweden we saw him play with our local musicians and they were blown away when he didnt tell them the songs and what key he played in, but it turned out well! He played with a local Swedish band "Jerry Williams and the Violent" who played at the Star Club in Hamburg and knew the Beatles.

@@chriscoughlin9289 Yeah but the Beatles, Stones & Beach Boys, as well as all being influenced by many 1950's RnR artists & styles, actually progressed musically .Chuck didn't influence that. Of course I respect Chuck Berry's incredible body of work from CHESS records. Everyone should.

Dave Edmunds is brilliant -- a dazzling musician-singer-producer who REALLY knows his stuff. His albums from his first on MAM (with "I Hear You Knockin'") to "Subtle As A Flying Mallet" (on RCA) and on and on are all masterworks. He appreciates Chuck Berry and other pioneers because of his livelong ,love and understanding of rock 'n' roll at its core.

Saw Dave at the Ripley's on South Street in Philly. Chuck Berry also played there, but when they asked him who was in his backup band was going to be Chuck said, "Just me". @@MrJett1971 I don't know how great it would have been since Chuck never rehearsed his back up bands after he got out of prison. They were lucky if he even told them what key the next song was going to be. There is a good clip from the early 60s in Europe. He's backed up by a jazz group and they seem to be able to keep pace. Also dig him and the Count Basie band in the film Jazz On A Summer Day.

Chuck said the best band to ever back him was Booker T and the MG's, and that he loved Steve Cropper. I once met Cropper and told him that. Steve was deeply flattered. And I could see why Chuck would say that to Entwistle. John was a show-off. I always got a sense he was insecure and jealous guitarists always got the attention.
