Polaroid OneStep 2 Review Hands On with i-Type Film In NYC: Polaroid Is Back

I give a hands on review of the new Polaroid OneStep 2 using the newer I-Type 600 film in New York City. I show how the new film looks and its coloring. The Polaroid OneStep Two is a welcomed release by Polaroid/Impossible Project in 2017. This camera is priced just right at around $100 bucks. The big change about this is not needing a battery for the newer film but still being versatile and able to use older 600 film. To be able to use the I-Type film, you can charge the One Step 2 through micro USB. This is simple to use and just fun. Sadly the film is still overpriced.

What's with only 8 shots? The old Polaroid SX70, 600, Spectra etc all had 10 shot film packs, with the Polapulse battery in the film pack. Taking the battery out should make it possible to load 10 shots, even if the impossible project hasn't been able to match the thickness of original Polaroid film.

If I'm not mistaken, part of the reason for the 8 shots is because the chemical pack is thicker than original Polaroid film packs. Not necessarily the battery.

I spoke with a rep from Polaroid at Photo Plus just the other week about this. Apparently, it only uses 8 because thats what they already had tray wise. They would have needed to create a new design to fit and work with 10....to me thats just a rip off answer lol
@FortuneCast
@FortuneCast 6 жыл бұрын
Its because of the thickness of the positive and negative, it's significantly thicker than the Polaroid one
@WolfeWrangle
@WolfeWrangle 6 жыл бұрын
Eric Rossi, I completely disagree, it's not a rip-off answer. This is what happens when you need to release something by a certain date. I could see if this were just a random project by Polaroid that they released so people can have some nostalgia, but this was advertised to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Polaroid cameras. They already were creating a new design for a completely new camera, and a completely new film type, so who's to say that they had enough time to come up with a new tray? And then have to mass produce these along with the normal kind.

Eric, can you review the differences between Fujifilm Instax and the Polaroid Originals i-type film? How long does each take to develop? Are they temperature-sensitive during development, like the older IP film? Are they light-sensitive during development? Thanks.

Let me see what I can do, I dont have access to a fuji instax camera!
@sebnic1885
@sebnic1885 6 жыл бұрын
Joe Van Cleave instax film has a higher ISO, meaning it’s more for indoor shooting, or overcast shooting. Not really a film I would use when the sun is blaring. Polaroid I type film has a lower ISO, than instax. This film is great for both indoors and outdoors. Instax film is cheaper than Polaroid I type film, by a long shot. A two pack of instax film (20 shots) can set you back around 14 bucks, meanwhile a pack of i type film (8 shots) can set you back about 17 bucks. However Polaroid pictures are significantly bigger than instax pictures. The instax film, although very sharp and vivid, the colors are just very contrasty, and they tend to come across over exposed most of the time. Polaroid pictures, albeit not as sharp, have a dreamy kind of feel to them. You can take a picture and get some very nice results, if you know what you’re doing. Personally, I prefer Polaroid over instax, even though it’s more expensive. Hope this helps ^_^
@nuckinfuts5481
@nuckinfuts5481 5 жыл бұрын
@@sebnic1885 Just a side note: Instax film is only 1/3 stop faster (more sensitive) than Polaroid I-Type and or 600 film. ISO 800 (Fuji) vs ISO 640 (Polaroid Originals I-Type and 600).

The photos look very nice. Is it the camera or the next generation film chemistry that is doing it. I have a spectra type camera and the Color film is now out of stock. The images always looked washed out or shabby which makes me think they had manufacturing issues. I prefer the spectra forma and hope they bring out a wide format I type camera and film. I was never good with the lighter and darken slider 100% automatic shutter speed control sounds good to me.

Hey! Not sure if you realise man, but impossible is actually the same company as Polaroid originals! They just finally bought the rights to use the name Polaroid in 2017. Which means your impossible pack is most likely just an older pack, and if you don't use the pack within the first 12 months of its production date, the film won't work properly, and it'll either over expose of have other issues like light leaks and what not :)

Eric Rossi it's the "Polaroid original color 600 film", similar box as you showed the itype film except the box is blue rather than yellow.

hmm, idk why it wouldn't develop. Is the dark sleeve coming out with the Polaroid once its ejecting like shown in the video? Are you leaving it exposed for too long without shielding it when it first comes out of the camera?

where is my higher tier instax wide? like the mini 90 but wide! give me a quality instant camera that doesn't take (worse) film that's $2 per exposure D:

lol, if I liked how the instax looked I'd probably not care so much about the Polaroid side of things, but its not bad

Eric Rossi what don't you like about the Instax?

its not that i dont like it, i just dont prefer it. If I had to choose, I'd choose a Polaroid anytime of the day. Fuji has decent colors but I feel polaroid is just much better, more accurate and overall the quality is better.

My Polaroid OneStep 2 will eject the dark slide no problem but it won’t eject the first picture I take. It takes me to press the shutter button two or three times to eject a single image and then they are all on the same image together. Is there something I could be doing wrong? Please help

Hmm, I would reach out to Polaroid/Impossible Project, to see their thoughts. Not sure why it wouldnt work after the dark slide comes out no issue. By chance, are the rollers dirty?

I own one and thought there was something wrong with it, turns our they all take horrible pictures. Waste of money, no where near the photo quality of the original polaroid. Seems like technology rolled backwards on this product.
