I recommend you to take a look at Japanese indie scene. In 1990s, several bands and projects conquered the barrier and diverse musical values were explored. That was like an explosion. Recent 2010s, we again encounter the rapid growth of indie music with many great bands. I especially recommend "Ayano Kaneko" whose is a singer song writer exhibiting a simple but powerful performance.
