They call this a racing game, but though it was exciting when it came out in the arcade, it's just a passing-traffic game, like several others, including one I played a lot more: Turbo. It wasn't until they had several games that linked up were they really racing games between players. Indy 500 was an overhead racing game (as well as the arcade game it was based on that had oil slicks), as was the Intellivision game, Auto Racing, which was two player, I believe. I thought when you crashed you wouldn't make it to the checkpoint, but you just did, barely! Ah, but I bet two crashes means game over. Once I won the 2600 version without crashing, there wasn't much reason to play again. Maybe to save 1-3 seconds? I forget if I won the VIC-20 version.
