I want you to know how much I appreciate your advice for young coaches. I am a first year pole vault coach, and I have been repeating myself a lot to try and find the one thing that sticks in the kids brain. I like the idea of explaining it multiple ways even if it is corny. I am taking your simple advice in stride. Not only are my kids having a little more fun, but they are learning as well. As my high school coach used to say, "simple things done extraordinarily well." I am capable of asking you many questions on how you deal with day to day struggles of coaching, but i will save that for a later day.

Keeping a straight trail leg is definitely a huge whole in both mine and my brother's jumps so that would be pretty swell!

I know we've talked before but I have an actual problem now. In a couple of weeks, I'm going to be going to a 2x a week pole vault camp. I've talked to the coach there during indoor meets and he even tried to help me during my jumps. My predicament is that the camp coach and my school coach both want me to vault differently. For example, my school coach says I should get into a ball, ride the pole in that position, and kick my legs out. The camp coach says I shouldn't ball and kick because it ruins my trail leg and introduces extra problems. Their mentalities differ in other ways too. What do you recommend I do about conflicting advice? Just FYI, I haven't mastered either method yet so I still don't know what works for me. It is likely that since I have 2 sessions a week at the camp plus 2 meets a week where I pole vault I won't be practicing with my school coach anyway, but I don't know how he will react to me vaulting differently. I just don't know what to do. Sorry for the super long comment, I am just really confused.

Marshall Testa well easy solution ls your school Coach is wrong man if you are getting into a ball then you lose the power that you gain from your swing and take off
@TeamHootPoleVault7 жыл бұрын
Id jump like the camp coach says. Even the vaulters who do bull up its after a swing (even if its shorter than others). A swing adds energy into your jump! adding energy is better than getting into positions. So swing swing swing. In the end, you are the athlete and get to make that call! If you use the horse to water analogy, The coach can only lead you to the water (If i'm allowed to call you a horse for this example) Its up to you if you're thirsty or not.

Okay thanks. It's weird because my school coach tells us that our first priority is getting bend out of the pole, and puts very little emphasis on the swing, an early plant, staying tight at the top, and drive knee. He also calls himself a 17' vaulter for the one time everything came together and he shot over a 14' bar. Great guy but he might not be the best coach.

When i pole vault i always seem to land on the bar at 9 feet i am in 8th grade what should i do
@TeamHootPoleVault7 жыл бұрын
Its hard to saw without seeing your jump... Id imagine that you're not trying to go deep in the pit. Most kids jump for the bar which makes them come up short. By trying to land deep in the pit, the poles are made to throw you over the bar. Trust it
