I think the reason that they didn't hire a person to do the murder is because it was too personal. A lot of times, people kill their victims themselves due to personal issues (hence why it is always noted to see how many times a person is stabbed because one stab [the person didn't know the victim], 2-3 [possibly personal but not extremely heartfelt], etc.) The stabbing was just an example. So, killing the victim is more like, "I want to do this MYSELF. I want to see her suffer." Chuu know?

I would also assume they thought bringing more people outside their family into the plot would increase their risk of getting found out. A lot of murder for hire plots end up with the murder not even happening I think. Also i would assume like googling “where to hire people for murder” would alert some authorities
