Clearly it wasn't him they're doing this to show suspects and make you think it's them the person who killed Lucy hasn't been suspected yet they aren't going to give away who killed her straight away we find out in February

If he's had a track record for murder as you say, then it's less likely to be him. Eastenders make story lines obvious to those who dig far enough, but they don't base it on a characters past. No one expected Stacy to murder Archie or Ben to kill Heather. It adds that 'I didn't think of that' factor to interest the viewer.
