Great podcast as always with two very talented dog trainers! I noticed how the police dog and handler relationship is way different than here in Denmark. Each canine police officer gets the dog as a 8 week puppy, for the rest of it's career it lives at home with the handler when its not working, and when retired typically stays there as a family dog. The canine police officers are the trainer and do everything with the dogs themselves (obviously with thorough guidance and direction from more capable trainers).

Another great one & full of so much experience & refreshing honest info. Love all of your podcasts, Robert Cabral. I must offer sincere gratitude to Mr. Reaver for helping so many agencies around this nation. He seems very humble, but his work has played a critical role in the safety of countless people in probably every state. His family business has earned the respect of so many of your guests, it is very cool to learn a bit of why it has. Thank you, Mike Reaver, your work is appreciated & necessary, even if most people don’t know all you do to help them. Thank you, Robert! Well done!

Great podcast..2 professionals exchanging thoughts and concerns! Can you imagine an effective police dog trained under the Positive only ethic? It's just not reality! It just can't happen! Robert is doing a great job in opening the eyes that balanced training is effective / safe training! Bravo 👏 👏 Thank you!!

A great point made about the authority of LEO being diminished. Another way to think of it…the DOG helps bring back some politeness in situations. Bad manners may turn to good manners once they know the K-9 is there. Keeps things from getting dumb in plenty of situations, I’m sure.

Me too! I get so excited watching these videos because it gets me so pumped to go train a new command that scares me. It gives me confidence that I can teach my dogs something new. I love my Mals!

I have always wondered about the psychology of this. Years ago I knew an officer that became a handler. And his coworkers would come in and laugh about the dog was hard to handle and psycho. And it just seemed wrong to me. And I always wondered if it was the officer and the things he was doing since he was new or the dog was wired wrong and for whatever reason it either wasn't noticed or just intentionally overlooked. I wasn't ever allowed to actually set eyes on it or see how they interacted because it was deemed too risky. (I'm not a dog trainer but just someone that "gets" dogs. They like me and even when they're difficult I can watch and prevent a lot of violence on my person) all I know is a few months later, dog was gone and he was no longer a handler. But I'm in Texas and there is a lot of that old school good I'm not attitude about a lot of things. And watching this I do wonder if perhaps daily police work wasn't this dogs best job.

Hey, I know he mentioned Kelly Roby, I'd get Kelly on, great solid dude that could add to all these guys as well. Humble, solid guy. Oh and he has some dog knowledge and stories too 😂. A future live stream from your backyard with the Reavers, , Shannon, Steve, Kelly and Kenny Lichlider would break the internet and be absolutely GOLD! Tons ans tons of knowledge and stories! Probably could go on for 24hrs and still not have enough of it.

This is super interesting one of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from the trainer she says dogs don't feel sorry for each other and so you're basically she's telling me don't feel sorry for your dog she said I had a black lab she said he caught on pretty quickly we had a little tiny bit of chow and if she said he's not snippy like some Chows I really like these broadcast on dog handling😊 dog training

my question is this. Are the police dog handlers allowed to play and work with their dog when the dog isn't working at the office. I live next to a Sheriff's K9 handler and the dog is kept in a 10x10 cage 24/7, when not working. The dog barks at everything and if home all day, and night barks allot. The handler only takes the dog out of his cage only to go to work. No play, no extra training/ working. The dog only goes in the house when its heavy raining or freezing weather below 35°. I think this is not fair since this dog is frustrated. I've talked to the handler, but he wants nothing of it.

Question- As a military veteran myself- do you think it is possible we left our trained dogs in Iraq?
@RobertCabralDogs Жыл бұрын
We did not. I’ve asked that question to several people and have been told they came back with our soldiers.

Gentlemen thanks for the knowledge it’s awesome listening to you to Robert I’ve been following you for a few years now Just want to say that I have an amazing Belgian shepherd female she’s now 7 1/2 months old I started contacting my local police and canine cars and when she was four months old in the hopes of getting her in the program because she’s so amazing and they refused me and told me that they have a very strict recruiting policy Oh yeah I was very disappointing because although I’m a very good dog owner and she’ll have a very good life with me and my older dog she would be the perfect canine companion to an officer or military personnel or search and rescue she’s so smart she’s so alert for that you are she’s so amazing But they turned us down.
