Following the fatal attack on a police officer in Mannheim by an Islamist, Alexander Throm, the CDU's domestic affairs spokesman, is calling for more consistent action against Islamism and hate crime. In an interview, he criticizes the fact that the federal government is not taking sufficient action despite existing laws and is lacking consistency.
Throm stresses that hate speech comes not only from abroad, but also from Germany itself and is spread on many channels. He accuses the Federal Minister of the Interior of dissolving the "political Islam" expert group and of not having presented an action plan against Islamism for two years. Instead, there is only activism shortly before elections or after terrible acts.
With regard to deportations to Afghanistan and Syria, Throm points out that the old coalition had already deported people to Afghanistan and that there are contacts that could also be used for repatriations. Serious criminals and dangerous individuals should in any case be deported or taken into custody pending departure.
With a view to the upcoming European Championship, the CDU politician warns that the border controls that were only introduced two weeks ago have come too late. The security authorities have increased their measures, but complete protection will never be possible. Throm calls for more consistency in defense and criticizes the federal government in this regard.
