Here's a little tidbit. I remember a Phil Donahue Show a group from East LA was on the show complaining about that LAPD had a secret unit that would watch ex-cons that were multiple offender's and had been paroled. If they saw them steal a car they would wait till they did a far more serious crime like robbing a supermarket. Funny thing about that above scenario. It is an actual episode of Police Story Staring Vic Morrow, Combat fame, the good guy police officer and Chuck Conners, Rifleman fame, as the bad guy! Vic took Chuck out with a shotgun when Chuck tried to rob a supper market.

For those old enough to remember, when this show ran on TV back in the 1970's and was considered controversial in some respects due to its grittiness. Can you imagine what NBC and Wolf Entertainment could do if "Police Story" was re-imagined for the 21st century? Mr. Wolf has the Midas Touch when it comes to the police procedural.😎💪👊

Dick Wolf wouldn't do a bad job with Police Story at all. The problem you would have with doing it now is that you have to show the good and the bad in police work and there are people out there that don't want to see the bad of it. There are a lot of good cops out there but there's some bad apples and if you're going to tell the truth about things you got to show every bit of it.

The first theme was the best. My brother never allowed me to watch 1970s Cop Shows when they were shown in A&E back in the early 1990s. All I wanted to watch back then was Police Story, Rockford Files, Kids In The Hall, Vacant Lot, Monty Python, Ren and Stimpy and Rocko 's Modern Life. Instead my family wanted me to focus on my education, career goals and banned me from any type of so called fantasy.

I too remember the early to mid '90's airings of Police Story, Columbo, McCloud, McMillan and Wife, etc. I used to watch them on my days off from work. I'm in my early 40's, and still remember some of these shows when they were still shown in prime time during my childhood. ...Big fan of Kids In The Hall when I was 19, or 20.

I miss having a good police show on TV like this one. The last good one was "Southland," which NBC dropped after a season or so. It was too nitty, gritty I guess. like the fourth one the best. One thing I like is setting the rhythmic background first and then building on it. He did this also on "Barnaby Jones" and actually did it twice in "Room 222". On the latter, he starts with rhythmic background figure, builds on it with the main melody,, then actually drops back to a slightly more ornate but still building block background figure repeated before overlaying the melody again. Very unique, but all 3 themes do that same rhythm figure setup.

I love the Police Officer, Sheriff's Deputy; their presence denote the very core of a civilized community - safety, security, being able to take a deep breath of fresh air, right of personal space, calmness, law and order. That Policy Story series did so much to cement my support of The Cop on the beat, dressed in uniform blue while on duty in a marked black/white patrol cruiser. I hate that those cops who beat Rodney King got away with it and that the jury bought their story...they even used the "n-word" while beating him. It soils the uniform of the good cop.

I'm italian and I watched this TV serie in the late seventies. The italian title was "Sulle strade della California" (obviously in order to take advantage of the success of the TV series "The Streets of San Francisco"). I was a child in those years and I watched every Police TV series with my grandfather (who was a police officer). Even today this is my favorite genre. There were different actors in every episode; an unusual and brilliant feature. Unfortunately this TV series lacks the features that will be successful in the following decades. So in Italy it is substantially forgotten and no publisher produce it in DVD or Blue Ray. What a shame.
