The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and Save the Children hosted an insightful session at the Helsinki SRI Congress for the SSD2024, focusing on "Policy lessons from cross-sectoral global case studies tackling climate change effects on health." This interactive roundtable took place on Monday, 10 June at Aalto University's Undergraduate Centre.
During this session, participants explored the profound impacts of climate change on health and learn from a comprehensive panel of diverse case studies compiled by IAP in collaboration with Save the Children. These case studies, which were discussed at a workshop in Trieste, Italy, in September 2023, cover four priority areas:
Food Systems and Agriculture
Energy: Production, Distribution, Access, Efficiency
Urbanization and Urban Planning
Health Systems Strengthening
Special attention is given to underserved groups, including children and women, highlighting the importance of a systems-approach in research and policy-making. The findings and policy recommendations from these case studies were presented at COP28, emphasizing the global urgency to address the health co-benefits of climate action.

In this occasion, The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and Save the Children announced the launch of a landmark publication, Climate and Health: Science-based Policy Solutions. This new book presents a collection of 14 meticulously curated case studies that illuminate the intricate connections between climate change and health, offering science-based solutions for policymakers worldwide. This publication, a collaborative effort by IAP and Save the Children, encapsulates the essence of our project, which began in 2019 and has since gained significant traction in international policy discussions, including contributions to the UN Secretary General’s 2021 Food Systems Summit.
