Thanks for watching. If you have someone who know what they’re doing, teach you, it is easy.

Great video Lisa! Have you thought about doing a video of the "Don'ts" of poling. All the best!

Bob, thanks for commenting. I’ll do it. It might be a couple episodes down the road, but I’ll do it.

I'd love to make some nice wooden poles like that one Lisa. Where do you get the metal end pieces? Only aluminium or composite canoe poles available from retailers here in Ireland.

I use copper plumbing endtubes from a hardwarestore on my wooden pole.
@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide29 күн бұрын
The electrical conduit parts and the copper fittings are your best bet at your local hardware store. I like the conduit arts because they are threaded on the inside. Get one just slightly smaller than the pole tip and secure it to a vise and screw it onto the end of the pole. Good luck.

Where do you get info on your classes?
@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_GuideАй бұрын
Go to 3MinutesMaineGuide.com. My 2025 class schedule will be out after the Holidays.

How often do you teach poling classes? Are they multi day? We live in Maine and would love a lesson. Could we use our Winona Minnesota 2? Or is a more river friendly canoe needed? Great video! Keep it up.

I teach several classes during the Summer. My 2025 class schedule will be out after the holidays. I teach a beginner poling class on flat water on Saturday and a moving water class on a rapid the next day on Sunday. Most people sign up for both classes. The classes are 5 hours long $150 per day.

Lisa, where do you buy your polls?
@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_GuideАй бұрын
I plan on making next years but I get poles from 2 sources, Peavey Manufacturing, East Eddington Maine. Good poles they will show one end or both upon request BUT you will have to do some finish work on the shoes to make them right. Kevin Silliker a Canoe Guide from Canada makes the others. I sell poles at my Poling classes and upon request…if we can meet somewhere close.

How many times should I expect to fall in while learning?
@gabrieljennings5492Ай бұрын
If you really want to learn? As many as it takes

Not at all as a matter of fact, you’ll flop like a fish inside the boat before you ever go over but it’s rare that you fall. It’s it’s much much harder in my opinion to ski or do something with speed attached to it then pull a Canoe trust me. I’ve built my career on the fact that we are not building a rocket ship and I believe anybody can pole a Canoe.

@@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide Good to hear. I am going to start in still water and progress slowly. Cut two spruce poles and put a shoe on them. Looks like a good skill to have!
@mairnealachamuАй бұрын
I've only started polling in the last year, and so far falling inside the boat is much more of a thing than falling out. I think I need to get shin guards actually. I've had a few bruises! I think my height isn't helping, my centre of gravity is a lot higher up than Lisa's, I think 😅.

Where can you get the metal tips? Someone still making them?
@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide16 күн бұрын
www.bghookedesign.com/ These look quite good, I wish the end was open for the spike tip but you could still drill one in I suppose. Good luck

Honestly the best place is the plumbing or electrical conduit parts aisle of your local hardware store. You’ll know it when you see it. Conduit is nice because the inside is threaded. Good luck and thanks for watching.
