"Gdy naród do boju" was a Polish People's Republic march, based off the poem by Gusataw Ehrenberg. The song mocks the nation's leaders living comfortably while the nation's people go off to die in wars. It was seen as the unofficial anthem of the Polish People's Army.

This song was made in 1848 to commemorate the 1830 Polish uprising. The tune was taken from Chopin's variations on Mozart's "La Ci Darem La Mano" (from "Don Giovanni"). It likely inspired the US civil war song "Sweet Ellie Rhee" and by extension, "Sarie Marais". It also inspired the Bolshevik songs "Capital oppresses us" and "forward Red Marines" and from there, "Matrosen van Kronstadt" (in the DDR), "Pochod Rudých Námořníků" (in Czechoslovakia) and "Nabrusimo Kose" (in Yugoslavia).

"Gdy Naród do boju" wasn't based off on Soviet song. "Szlachta 1831" (Alternative title) was written in 1835. Song for this was composed in 1848 by Fryderyk Chopin (famous Polish pianist). Soviet Union was establiched in 1922 ;P Polish version was first.

Fun fact: the tune was taken from “red marine forward”, which was a variant of a US civil war tune, (the same one that Sarie Marais was taken from)

Vice versa. "Forward, Red Marines!" took tune from "Gdy Naród do Boju" ;P Song for "Szlachta 1831" was composed in 1848 by Fryderyk Chopin. "Вперёд, Краснофлотцы!" was written in 1922.
