I would consider myself a moderate silversmith, I've made alot of jewelry but always had a difficult time finishing my jewelry, I have so many pieces that construction wise are great but they don't have that polished look. This was very informative -thank you so much!

What works for me is Zam! for anything silver with soft stones and Fabuluster for gold/silver for everything else using my flex-shaft. Also when using the mops, try running the flex shaft in reverse (if you are holding the hand piece in your right hand) so that the compound flings away from your face and not all over you. And... you must wear a mask, lol. Great video thanks for sharing.

I have Zam. I don’t need either Tripoli or rouge then. Correct? Takes the place of both?
@polosandoval6 ай бұрын
@@Susanarylander I work my way to about a 800 grit paper and then polish with zam. Never used tripoli or rouge on silver. Try it and see what happens! Cheers

@@polosandovalthanks! That’s what I’ve been doing but wasn’t sure if there is another step I should do. I guess the zam is just another option and a standalone

Excellent tutorial! You’re a GREAT teacher. Thank you! I have a question. When I do pendants with bezel set stones I always worry to get water under my stones and so I tend to not use compounds after I’ve set, the stones but of course dents are made setting the stones.🤦🏻♀️I do use some pumice wheels which helps to take out dents but not as great for shine as compounds.

Try silicone mold putty. The other is a sticky mess.

9:00 I hate when that happens lol. Especially when it's a bezel and the fall causes it to dent and then you have to reshape it 😢 Thanks for the great video!!

Thank you for this!! I was looking for polishing videos yesterday so your timing is perfect. 2 quick question - how exactly are you washing pieces between compounds? And also do you do anything differently for your more textured pieces (like your wax carvings)?
@MiteraMade9 ай бұрын
Aw glad I can help!!💜💜☺️ I do the exact same thing with my cast pieces 💜 when I wash my jewelry between compounds, I use a mesh trainer in my bathroom sink (I’ve learned that lesson before😂) and I use a dedicated Colgate jewelry toothbrush and scrub with any hand soap 💜😂
@jenniesaunders1146Ай бұрын
How does tumbling fit into all of this? Also, when you "Wash" after the two compounds do you use soap or anything?
@scotts41344 ай бұрын
One more thing. I pour silver bars. I start by using a white compound, then green and then red or rouge. But I just don't seem to get a "super" shiny bar, after polishing. I use a new polishing disc after each color. Is it possible because I'm not cleaning the old compound off good enough, before I apply the next compound? I also use one of those big balls for the final polish and I always use a new one. But I still just can't seem to get that shine I'd like. Thank you in advance.
@Rdn55Ай бұрын
when you apply (sorry I dont know exactly what they are called) the stuff you apply with the mops (the clay compound), this is for the shine correct? How easy does that stuff rub off the jewelry or does it stay on for the long time? Also great video on finishing.

Thank you for uploading this video. Really learned a lot from this video. And I have a question, what solution should we clean/wash with? Can I use a normal soap solution or a shampoo?

When or why would you need to use a tumbler or something like an ultrasonic cleaner? Are they necessary?
@MiteraMade9 ай бұрын
great question! I like to use my ultrasonic when I polish jewelry where I have grain set stones, sometimes it feels near impossible to get the compound out of those little engraving marks lol. I also like to use it in pieces that have a lot of texture or small settings so I know it’s getting super clean in all the tiny grooves 💜 I use my tumbler when I am bulk polishing a lot of my more simple pieces or even if I’m wanting to work hardening something. So good examples of that are, hoops, signet rings, etc. I hope that all makes sense. In the beginning neither are necessary, just really helpful to have when you have those unique situations where you feel like you need them 💜 lol
