Would getting CLP on the gun after Flitzing interfere with the protective action of the Flitz? Would you just touch up with more Flitz or would you want to make sure the CLP is removed first? Thanks.
@jman39704 ай бұрын
I would use more of an oil or wax to protect under the grips than just CLP. Just my .02

@@flitz Flitz should put in bold letters on the package NOT FOR BLUED METAL! Flitz works well on stainless and bright nickel firearms. Bluing on older firearms will get a nice shine after a few minutes of polishing. I use Flitz once a year on my Colt Python and Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight after the hunting season. The finish has a great bead when it rains. Just simply wipe the water off and dry with clean cloth or microfiber towel. No rust!

@@boostimalaka1 I'll pass your comments along to the packaging folks. We NEVER want Flitz to mess up someone's firearms!! Cold bluing and the cheaper bluing processes some manufacturers are now using will definitely get removed by Flitz. Hot bluing still holds up like it always has. Thank you for the feedback!!! We really appreciate it! PS: If you REALLY want to see water run and hide from your guns, you should check out our Gun Ceramic Sealant. It's amazing! Stay safe!!

What a stunning vintage revolver ! But Rennaissance Wax is much better for guns than Flitz Polish, in my opinion...
@drdrake635 жыл бұрын
Zeben Straïn I agree for regular maintenance yes, wax. But something with wearing finish & rust needs a more aggressive approach at the start.

@MlLKMAN3 жыл бұрын
Suggesting fltz to polish a blued surface is a terrible idea as it contains abrasives that will take the bluing off. If your wipe is black, that means that you removed too much of the protective layer. You are much less likely to cause permanent damage to your blued pistol by polishing it with 0000 steel wool and fine oil.
@drdrake633 жыл бұрын
I found in this case it did a really good job of removing tarnish lightly used which exposed a deeper bluing underneath Your point is well taken.
@radiohobbyist133 жыл бұрын
"removed too much of the protective layer" ??? Bluing is STRICTLY a metal stain that is used to give carbon steel guns a dark color, that's it. If bluing actually protected carbon steel guns there would be no concern about RUST, but there is. When I was young and ignorant I ruined the bluing on a Colt Python with FLITZ!!! Never use it on a blued gun!
@broot1375 Жыл бұрын
I wonder if Colt ever considered stopping the production of firearms and focusing only on bluing. Especially during their periods of financial woe. There is no finish that matches the beauty and mystique of the old Colt charcoal blue.

Don't use Flitz on blued guns. It will ruin the finish.
@nojustno12163 жыл бұрын
It won't harm the finish on guns that are hot blued, especially the older firearms which were hot blued and polished with an oil treated piece of leather. I've used Flitz on a 1903 Colt to remove the dull buildup on the bluing and it did not remove the bluing. It just polished it.

thats right you just keep using flitz eventually you will have an old colt with a polished metal finish and yea your blue will be long gone and it does not provide a protective coating take a smell of that when rubbing it on metal and try to figure out what chemical it is they use once you do i bet you will just use oil if any thing just use rotten stone and oil

I recently purchased a new Model 29 Classic. I've heard you can't use the same cleaner on the brand new bluing that you could on the old bluing because the new bluing is done with a different process. I used rem oil to clean the chambers and the barrel and used just a dab on a small corner of the outside of the gun just for a test. It seemed to work ok but I'm still hesitant to do the entire outside of the gun with rem oil. What do you use to shine your new Smith and Wessons?
@flitz3 жыл бұрын
Strongly suggest you contact S&W support and find out how that bluing is done. I would suggest you not use Flitz Metal Polish until you know for sure. Our Rifle, Gun & Knife Wax will be a much safer solution, especially on a newer piece.
