It's not a theory, it's a practice. Y'all are thinking way too much into this

This video provided a clear and detailed explanation of the politeness theory. First, we must realize that we all have a particular face or even faces in society. This is our role as a child, students, workers, and so on. It can also dentify the degree of politeness in different situations, as some require us to be more polite than others. When I first heard about positive and negative politeness, I was confused, thinking that according to the terms, reacting negatively in some situations is not acceptable. However, the names have nothing to do with the terms itself. Positive politeness includes using friendly language while emphasizing our strong connection with other people. However, negative politeness means allowing others to refuse without inducing their specs. Overall, the theory and its components are pretty helpful and help me as a communicator to think about the techniques I use.

This video was incredible! I just miss the example of missing positive and negative politeness, but anyway, this video explained the politeness theory in an understandable way! Thanks! 🥰

This is great to understand how common words such as face, threat etc. are being used differently in academia. when I heard this theory, I was not able to comprehend this correctly as the author intended. however after watching this video, I come to understand about this theory now!!!

Great video! Just a side remark: The distinction between positive and negative face does not originally refer to properties of the faces themselves but rather to whether the face can be saved by activity (positive face) or avoidance (negative face). The concept comes from Émile Durkheim's (1919) distinction between negative rites and positive rites in religion, where negative rites consist in avoiding blasphemic behaviour, e.g. not putting your latte macchiato on the altar (therefore: negative, as in not doing something) and positive rites consist in actively building up a relationship with Jesus or Virgin Mary or whathaveyou by kneeling down and praying or kissing the icon in orthodox churches etc. (therefore: positive, as in doing something). Cf. also Meier-Vieracker's (2020) video lecture on the subject (that is otherwise less exhaustive than your video). Greetings from Uni Leipzig!

Faceloss. Social rules sucks. Money, domination, narcissism, anti social behaviour, lack of sharing, nor cooperation, closemindedness, social ranking, i'd rather go without one, I gave a present on people's frontdoor. How to move from my negative face now to a positive one? It seems unatainable.

The face threatening and face saving acts are for the other person's face. That is not the usual way we use the phrase.
