Re: creative assassinations, check out the Red Army Faction’s whacking of Alfred Herrhausen, the chairman of Deutsche Bank in the 80s. I think my favorite parts about the gandhi assassinations discussion is that they didn’t mention the 3rd Gandhi assassination, and also that to add even more confusion, only 2 of the gandhis are even related. Mahatma Gandhi was not related to Indra or Rajiv, instead they are related to the 1st PM Nehru

Also being Sikh, Indra gandhi and her assassination is pretty important to understanding the politics of the Sikh community and of Punjab

It's not strictly political, but the assassination of the Sicilian prosecutors Borsellino and Falcone in 1992 is pretty wild. Mafia hitmen tunneled under a highway, loaded the tunnel with explosives using a skateboard and blew up the road when the prosecutors' car approached. The assassination started a huge operation to rid the island of organized crime, which apparently worked surprisingly well. It took a few years and some more bodies, but eventually in 1997 pretty much everyone included in planning and carrying out the assassination, including the mob boss Totò Riina, were sentenced to life in prison.
