I've been following the results of the election of the European Parliament. Alas, a cold chill has gone up my spine and settled there. I'm sorry that Nigel Farrage is running for parliament, but happy that he won't be acting as another lickspittle for Trump. I do always enjoy your videos.

I'm not sure I agree about young Trump voters being persuaded by Hitchens (or people like Peterson or whatever). So many of these young men are radically anti-smart, resisting anyone who seems to be using (or in their opinion misusing) intellect or serious thought. This anti-intellectualism has long been a major strand in American culture--at least in certain regions of the country (including the one where I grew up). Hitchens couldn't--and didn't even try--to hide his brilliance. But maybe you're right that he could have shifted just a few trumpies, enough to swing an election. And at the very least, I personally would have enjoyed his youtube persona very much (even when I disagreed with him).

That's a very valuable contribution Hannah! I think we all underestimate the extent to which anti-intellectualism has its boot on our necks!

Have you ever come across The Case for Conservatism by Quintin Hogg (perhaps better know to your Grandparents as Lord Hailsham). It was first written in 1947 and is possibly a reaction to the 1945-51 Labour government. It was published by Penguin as a grey-banded world affairs book. Hogg later revised the book under a different title. I like to think that was because everyone answered the original title with "You Mean There Is One?"

I have indeed not heard of such a work, but I'm sure it's shot through with stern-faced truths!

@@timstoomanybooks Well, it does sound like a great recommendation, and conservativism has its strengths in some areas, however, some ideas on the left should not be neglected because of bad/extremely bad experiences from Marxist ideologies and similar ideas, but I do understand the problems, obstacles, and challenges that go with it.

Trump's books do have something of value, he is obviously persuasive man, but his lack of political skills is obviously really his biggest flaw in eyes of the public, and arguably, his candidacy makes the election look like the joke, and that anyone without the real knowledge can be president of the USA, and this is obviously bad thing to do. I will not mention some of his views, because he has been already criticized for them, and that is different topic. We will see results, hopefully, the next president will lead his country the best way he can and make his voters happy and non-voters as much satisfied as they can be.

I don't think Mr Trump can be credited with having written one single clause of any books that appear in his name!

@@JoeSpivey02 I do think I understand what you are saying, however, it does really match his appearance and negotiating style, so I disagree on this one. If it was a work of a ghost writer, he did his job brilliiantly, and presented Trumps ideas and style in a great manner

@@JoeSpivey02 Well, it may be taboo, difficult to say, and I am maybe wrong, but considering part of voters and public are experiencing, unfortunately, drug, alcohol usage or addiction problems, some irrationality in speeches and presenting policies is expected and maybe even desirable, maybe, of course. This irrationality in speeches as is just with any other invention, of course. Of course, trying brainwashing addicts with political ideas probably is not smart at all, especially in terms od accepting poliitical ideas... it would be similar to MK Ultra that obviously proved as a catastrophy.

I would add titles like works on tyranny and what is meaning of it, history of democracy, what it means across the globe and why is it important, democracy today and some boost/ideas to engage people who really love politics or political theory and would probably be great activists/parts of political community in some way
