Constitutional monarchy Limited govt Consent as basis of authority. Consent turns raw power to authority. Social Contact State is not divine, not created by god , citizens can withdraw consent and negate contract. Surrendered natural rights and surrender is not absolute. Locke is father of liberalism. Not hobbes. Hobbes is father of absolutism. Locke gave birth to constitutionalism. 1632 to 1704 Cb macpherson posessive liberwlism book. Lokce is father if english liberalism. 1688 glorious revolution, democratic, constitution, beginning of limited governing, Locke 1. Insprired from descartes 2.two treatises on civil libertises 1689 1690 3.refutation of divine rights of filmer 4 . Men are equal in capacity.no one can put man in authority without consent. Man is resonalnand rational even in natural state.human is superiror to human history . Man not subservient to history. Rights are sacrosanct. Consent. Only to protect those rights. Can revolt if natural rights not protect3d. All three tenemts 1.Law, procedure to run society, Constitutional monarchy, 2. Surremder of nat rights is not absolute. 3. Both hobbes and lock talked abt social contract. But lock is father of liberalism..

Compared to the previous lecture on hobbes this is dissapointing. REPITITIVE. Moreover covered European history than locke.
