The idea that you can make a special ruling class to rule justly on behalf of the general population is absurd on its face. If the majority of people are able to form some good judgment of how things ought to be done, then no special class is needed. If they are not able to form good judgment on how things ought to be done, then whoever gets into power will not be whoever is most just, but whoever is best able to convince the ignorant masses to do what they want to be done.

I love Plato. I’ve been reading and rereading him for over a decade. I believe, however, that his main mistake is the idea that “truth” can be boiled down to an exact equation and that the equation(though perhaps unlikely) can be used to found a more perfect individual and in turn society. That, in my opinion has been a dangerous idea for millennia and I believe others have obliterated that idea, Nietzsche for example...and yet I believe that Camus obliterated Nietzsche in kind. In truth I would posit that so far the “conclusion” of philosophy is that there is no truth and reason is only a way to prescribe some sense of sense to chaos. It doesn’t make Plato, Nietzsche or any other thinker wrong...only contextually out of their depth. Which means we are all out of our depth when it comes to our place in the world and cosmos.

Plato was truly a Mature Mind, where Wisdom exists. . On Democracy, he understood the risks. Those are directly related to the Information Source, i.e., a Free Press. Amazing, He and Socrates had a clear conception of how even a well intended and with good facts, a Public can be misled or fooled. I feel like folks should at least be able to pass a basic Civics Test to get their Voters Card. 1. How a Bill becomes a Law. 2. Know the difference of the 2 parties. 3. Know that a Democracy Depends on a Free Press (a prove owned News Media is not a free press, they have personal and profit motaves). 4. Understand that a Mature Mind requires Conscious Thought + applied Higher-Mind. Children can't vote, why should age be the gauge? 8t is the Mind that is needed to validate Adult. 5. Understand the reason for a minimum 2 Party System. *...and realize what is 8n the Country's best interest trumps our individual desires. Yes, *The Ancient Wisdom Minds recognized the risks.* What would they say in this era of "Opinion News" - that's what Rupert Murdoch said live on film in his Bio-Documentary, "We are an Opinion News Group, we don't send Reports out to interview everyone." Quote, Rupert Murdoch, Owner of Fox News. Naive minds are easily swayed. They vote for th9se whom are less interested in their needs and blatantly supporting the elite and Corporations. Plato's society is sort of being played out in China and has been tried many times in history to varying degrees.

...and at the end of all that, it is not like you could say Plato's republic is any more moral than another kind of system, why? because, if there is no peace and harmony and freedom from dissent or discord, within the state, then "the state" acts in a way, to make it so, it puts all energy into creating peace, through totalitarian means, by censoring dissents and stamping out ALL discord. and if there is still no peace, harmony or freedom from discord, freedom from dissent, then it is because "we are not doing Plato's republic right", we need to become more totalitarian, to bring about peace and harmony to stamp out discord and dissent. (that's when the killing normally starts, when the state goes so far down the path, there is no return from, because the ends justify the means)
