I mean if you cheat on the person you look across the breakfast table at, then you will have no problem lying and cheating people they don’t have to look across the table at. That’s almost exactly what I was thinking. Once aspects of their personal lives become public, those things should be taken into account when it comes to who we choose to put in power. These things speak to their character, and they’re indicative of how they’ll use their power and what they’re susceptible to. It’s the exact kind of reason why background checks and security clearances are a thing. Certain aspects of one’s private lives can be major liabilities to their positions in office as well as the interests and well-being of their constituents. Shoot, in multiple federal career paths have a ceiling if individuals have debt, because it can be a security risk; it’s a weakness that can be exploited, same kind of situation with someone who has secrets that could ruin them if exposed.

The problem is you don't know what someone's marriage is like, nor is cheating a crime. Maybe the couple is separated and already heading for divorce, because they OTHER person cheated first, etc. so I still would keep it under the heading of "private business." The major exception is when it's hypocritical: if a holier-than-thou politician is having an affair, or if a homophobic/anti-trans pol is frequenting gay bars and hooking up with trans women, that should be publicized.

If in fact that is a 'real' truth concerning the purchase of a house for his girlfriend, and not connecting with his wife, that is more than infidelity, that is thievery. The wife, if she knows, should take action against both the 'girlfriend' and the ex. Even if she only puts a lien on the house purchased with her money for the entire amount. Hopefully the wife will pursue this further.
