I also made the argument that if it's a good story or just a good cutscene, then I find myself not skipping the cutscene. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is a fun game with great cutscenes and story, which is then enhanced by the gameplay.

As a casual I am very equal opportunity. I like more cinematic games like Telltale and Sony games but I also like more action oriented games. I'm just starting to dive into mass effect to try my hand and the RPG side of things. Also im amazed she's strawmanning so.goddamn hard. A game like Detroit Become Human may not be for everyone. Hell, it is basically QTE the Video Game. But what I liked about it was that it has something like 30 different endings, depending on your choices, and your actions (whether you succeeded in those QTEs or not). Casual markets are good for any hobby, else you get stuck with people who gatekeep and who cannot enjoy things. And it's as you said, if the casual market only wanted story driven games (someone takes the "PS is movie games" thing to seriously), then Minecraft wouldn't be as popular as it is, and Pokemon and Mario wouldn't be as widely sold as they are..

5:21 To me, Crimson One is the Anti-Pixy, while Pixy's backstory and fall into being a Terrorist are something we see as AC:Z progresses we also see and know his reasons and can see how he'd come to the conclusions he's come to as he progressively goes downhill. Crimson One meanwhile shows up like three times before he's the final boss, we beat him once (or twice) and since then his whole psyche has crumbled into dust and he's made it his goal to kill us. Crimson One's goals are shallower than a Politician's heart while Pixy's goals are to try and end war by any means necessary because he's been broken by the things he's seen in the Belkan War.

It's funny to be the object of someone else's Revenge Quest and even funnier that we, the players, can just chose to not really care because to him those times we beat his ass were the most important moments of his career... Can political nonsense effect a game yes. but just because something has say a "female lead" or a "political allegory" doesnt mean its a death sentence. Plus just because a game is for casuals doesnt kill anything because if you only just appealling to the hardcore people it turns casual people off. The best thing you can do is have a game that your able to understand bit by bit because If theres anything you should never do is chuck a bunch of info at the player all at once and expect them to learn it.
