Gary, you say the uproar was about “not much”, but that’s not true. By speaking clearly on an issue and contradicting a narrative that was not only wrong (immigration) but had grown arrogant in its intolerance of dissent, you broke the phalanx. You pierced the Tory bubble because of your large Twitter following. The resultant fury stemmed as much from how you broke the Tory narrative as much from your actual words. Thank you for exercising your free speech and your mind. Well done.

9:24 - Gary is 100% right here, there are more BBC stars who get paid far more than him. Graham Norton for example, he gets paid over £3 million a year for his BBC talk show and Eurovision duties, but that is paid for through BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC who don't have to publish star salaries. How do we know Graham get's this salary? Through records kept at Companies House.

And in fairness, Graham Norton is another national treasure, he makes what he does look effortless.
@johnking5174
@johnking5174 Жыл бұрын
@@ianwheeler7513 I know, but the BBC are hiding his salary in fairness from the public eye. All the shit is thrown at Gary and the BBC newsreaders and radio hosts, because they are paid directly by the licence fee. Graham is not directly paid by the licence fee, but BBC Studios do receive licence fee money from the BBC to make shows, just a handy way the BBC can hide big salaries of their stars.

I agree about the BBC - no matter who's in charge, it is still the best single broadcaster in the world, and I've watched TV on four out of five continents. But it must remain impartial politically - that's the bit where, as Mr Lineker says, it has to come from the top. x

Sorry Gary I disagree. One of the main issues with the BBC now is that it is very clearly a STATE broadcaster as opposed to national broadcaster. Parroting government narrative and agenda with very little question. Certainly on the main news outlets. Yes,there remain pockets of proper investigative journalism but that is largely the preserve of the more niche programmes now and not the flagships. As for the BBC website it is now dumbed down to the point where it is embarrassing. More concerned with relentless promotion of agendas and ideology than factual news. As for impartiality perhaps we could do without constant "explainers" telling the public what they should think. Just report the news,properly,and the public will make up their own minds. You only have to look at what isn't shown on the BBC to know that it absolutely is not committed to simply reporting the news.

Gary, they only reacted as they did because fascists hate being called out. You aren’t alone, there’s a hell of a lot of people who’ve identified as Conservatives all their lives who simply don’t recognise the party anymore and hate everything it’s become, that includes former leaders and cabinet ministers from Thatcher’s time. For them it’s more than just a single disastrous budget, a set of good economic figures isn’t going to bring them back to the conservatives fold when everything else the party spouts these days is nasty and divisive.

Watch out in coming years then. The gameplan in the UK was the Trumpian "I accuse you of what I'm about to do.. so that when I get caught I can shout both sides" The Tories have put their cronies in the top spots at the BBC... On Saturday morning, after Boris was found to be a liar, they brought the liars friend in to discuss his lying and try to excuse it... (You know. Like always happens when people are found guilty! "My mate Myra Hindley was a stand up lass... I don't think she's ever even been to the Moors!")
