I think he gave it away in his early answer about the global weapons supply chain. Cutting off Israel shouldn’t affect the global supply chain but they don’t want to piss off arms manufacturers because we have a war economy and those manufacturers have a lot of political influence. Israel is an incredibly lucrative weapons sink for these manufacturers, I don’t think there’s another country on the planet that orders so consistently from western suppliers and cutting arms would really impact the stock price of these companies. It would be like if the makers of Fortnite were suddenly not allowed to sell to people under 18. Their profits would nosedive in an instant. So I think these conservative politicians are deeply afraid of upsetting this ecosystem of war profiteering

(hypothetical) What will we do if the economy crashes apart? (hypothetical) What are we going to do about climate change? (hypothetical) What will we do if another pandemic hits? (hypothetical) Are to think the government is entirely reactionary? That they don't plan for potential futures but instead just react when something happens? The climate crisis and pandemic aren’t hypotheticals, they’re statistical certainties - a matter of “when,” not “if” The way around the other two examples is to ask what will be done to ensure they won’t happen or that if they do, the damage is minimised: e.g. what measures are being implemented to prevent economic collapse/foreign invasion; or, what contingencies are in place to safeguard the public in the event of an economic collapse/foreign invasion? Government is essentially management, and one of the reasons managers get paid so much is to design and implement preventative measures as a matter of precaution

@twiztedsynz10 сағат бұрын
IMO: rejecting the ICC and/or the ICJ, then you are telling the world that it does not have jurisdiction and never did. By THAT measure, all those crimes the Nazi's and others after WWII were charged and held for, should never have happened. Morally, you CANNOT pick and choose justice; if Netanyahu were not suspected to have broken international law, there would be no warrant. But because he is suspected, thus the warrant. If he is TRULY not guilty, he'd go to prove that. But no, he's fighting it. Anyone else who fights such things from any source of Justice is usually suspect. You cannot deny that to Netanyahu either.

As bad as this is, I'll at least commend that UK politicians can say they'll uphold ICC decisions, in addition to supporting a 2 state solution. If a US politician even suggested that, AIPAC would run millions in a primary race against that person. AIPAC handpicks 80% of all US politicians sometimes from a young age: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5-biYOJmsSZoc0

I already knew this and didn't vote for them. Own your vote buddy
@danrattigan9614 сағат бұрын
@@ShinyMudkip914 it’s not about me not owning my vote. I was happy to vote for these over the tories or Reform, and there was no point in voting anybody else in my constituency. If the Greens or Lib Dems were remotely competitive then I would have voted for them. My point is more broadly that it’s depressing this is the standard of the alternative
@KarakuraNinja14 сағат бұрын
@danrattigan96 they won't be competitive if nobody builds them up. That's why I voted green but tbf my local lib dem candidate hardly ever mentioned palestine so I opted for green. Both are good options imo. I have warmed up more to lib dembut last election was too fast for my opinion to solidify on lib dems since Jo Swinson and Nick Cleggs legacy reaked.
@aarontait395214 сағат бұрын
@@danrattigan96 that's a fair response. Might I suggest that there was little possibility of the Tories winning this previous election and that it was the best chance to actually express political pressure through contribution towards idealistic vote share? Voted Green personally and I suspect the next election will be all about deciding a hung parliament (where the results may be rather more catastrophic culturally if not economically).
@danrattigan9614 сағат бұрын
@@KarakuraNinja that’s true, and I did consider just ‘wasting’ my vote on the Greens for moral reasons - but I decided not to in the end because Reform were highly competitive here, and my dislike for them trumped my alignment with anybody else. I didn’t want to contribute in any way to them potentially winning this seat, so I voted tactically and Reform thankfully finished 2nd. The greens only got a couple of hundred votes, so that’s how I justify it 😂

Can you imagine, just for a second, that we were under siege from say.. France. France were certain that they had a right to defend themselves from us stealing their cheese and were constantly sending missiles over the channel. Then, just to add to it, countries from middle and eastern Asia were supplying France with weapons to withhold the sanctity of their cheese and these weapons had the power and capacity to obliterate hundreds upon thousands of innocent people who didn't care about French cheese. We would be absolutely apoplectic with rage not only with France but those willing Asian countries who for some reason decided to supply them with even more ammunition...
