As with all of the Soviet satellite states. Police was most corrupt and violent. My best examples are of that of the Milicja Obywatelska in Poland. Sure, they upheld the law and crime was low; but they were known to treat suspect most violently. Today's Policja, on the other hand, has calmed down really much, and crime is still very low in Poland. It is, in fact, one of the safest countries in Europe. Though... if you as a policja officer up for a dance, they still dance, of course... Was simply trying to make a point about the Soviet era police forces; corrupt and violent, while still keeping the places safe, for nobody dared to anything with the risk of getting a nightstick to the teeth.

mulchuepfer Sure, the Russian cops have a bad rumor of being violent. I once read a report that showed people were more afraid of cops than they were afraid of the mafia. Though, I believe the fear of cops have declined in Russia over the years.

Unfortunatly, the "Deutsches Rundfunk Archiv" press youtube to delete all clips from television from the GDR. Two times, all my uploads were deleted because of this! So, I avoid mentioning, where the uploads are from. Thats the onliest way to keep them here.

That was formerly the motor sirens, before the hungarian sirens from Eristron and Preston came to the police, rescue and fire departments. Notice: Americas "wail and yelp" came also from Hungary.
