Yessir, this, The Elephant Show, The Letter People, Harriet's Magic Hats, Mr. Dressup, Friendly Giant, Mr. Rogers, Under the Umbrella Tree, Pinwheel House, Today's Special, Read All About It, Reading Rainbow, Fred Penner.... and of course Night Drive/Night Walk/Night Ride if I was sick and awake through the night. That last was an excellent series I still re-watch as background while writing or researching. I was a bit young for a lot of these, but still remember watching them for lack of anything better; in the days before streaming content and 800-channel cable service.

This apparently came from one of the commercially released VHS tapes of episodes. TVO had a very strict no-taping policy (which they really didn't have any legal backing for) so a lot of people didn't record from TVO. And I don't think they kept episodes in any archive. Nobody considered the shows to have any value because they were just kids shows.

I've just realized something. The flute in the beginning is actually a sample of a flute used on an instrument called a mellatron. The same sample can be heard in the song Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles. The creators of the theme song probably heard Strawberry Fields Forever, and thought that the sound was good for a TV show for kids. The song Strawberry Fields Forever was released in 1967, whereas this was released in 1971. Just a cool little tidbit of information.

My sister and I used to watch this religiously as kids -- EXCEPT we both hated "Animal Day"...so it was always a big anxious moment when the song went "...get ready get set for" I don't remember why we despised Animal Day so much. I guess we both thought it was kind of boring. I mean, in a world with the glory of Hammy Hamster, how much fun did they expect it to be to merely talk to caged budgies and guinea pigs!?

Anyone remember that Canadian educational kids show from this era that was about writing and the alphabet, featured puppets and had a talking shoe as a main character? Or another obscure kids' educational kids show that had a sentient haunted house that talked by opening/closing its front door (IIRC)?
