A tender melodic souvenir from a delightful evening at one of pianist Orr's Thursday-night sessions, "Jazz on Broad," at the Hopewell Valley Inn and Bistro in Hopewell, New Jersey. The participants are Phil Orr, Larry McKenna, tenor; Warren Vache, cornet; Joe Plowman, string bass. Recorded on September 9, 2019, by Michael Steinman for JAZZ LIVES (www.jazzlives.w...).

What a treasure....such a pleasure. Larry is in perfect form....such a refined and kindly gentleman....he's played with the best of them, and once in a while, with someone who is not worthy to carry his case....but you'd never know it....his gentle spirit and demeanor demonstrates why he is so loved. He is a living legend. Thanks for posting this wonderful performance....everyone was really up to speed.

Larry McKenna is a supreme jazz saxophonist, that hasn't been recognized globally by the white jazz people that qualify performers for some unknown reason.

Vache seems to me after watching several videos to be rather obnoxious and pompous but he plays SO nicely! Larry and Phil and Joe...beautiful.

@@swingyoucats I defer to you of course and believe and respect you, but the way he responded to Phil when Phil suggested “Lotus Blossom” , a beautiful Strayhorn piece, was anything but deferential/polite in front of the audience. If I was sitting in the audience not knowing him, I would’ve felt the same way.
