U always have such cute & funny videos. Love Pollux & Maxxie together! They really needed each other! Pollux w/his beds & pool are cracking me up. It's a wonderful thing U did adopting him. I think he knows what a lucky dog he is. Maxxie is SO cute! Pets just fill the voids in our lives & they teach US so much. One of our beautiful days to enjoy on your video!! Sure has been nice but the heat is ON. OH YUCK! Still plan to come & get ice cream. I've been battling my allergies & not feeling too well. My Ebony is so sad w/o her "Boo Baby!" I still have my crying moments too. Takes a long time to heal. Pray for me & my Ebony. I realized a couple weeks ago I am dealing w/Identity Theft which is a nightmare!! Who does that to an old, worn out nurse & Veteran w/ Social Security Disability income??? And I have to notify all these people & businesses. Keep bringing the videos. Really enjoying them. Nice distraction from the chaos for me & my Ebony baby girl. Your daughter is SO cute!! I can tell Pollux loves her esp. when she plays w/him. SO cute together. Happy Father's Day to Maxxie & Pollux's Dad!! My Eb is sleeping & snoring. I let some of my friends hear her on phone. They thought I had a man @ my house. Least it gave us something to lol about! 🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🦋☃️🐾 🐾 FOR POLLUX & MAXXIE..........🦴🦴

So much to learn, but what an amazing job you all do with him! Thanks for sharing your days and theirs with us. Always a happy distraction I genuinely look forward to.
@Vulpixyy4 жыл бұрын
So behaviorally, it means he looooves the bed! The reason he is shredding it there is because he feels very safe in that spot. You might be able to get around him shredding it by putting some old fleece blankets in the bed. A lot of dogs will scratch at those and chew them up and use them to "nest" instead of shredding the bed underneath.
@xxxxOS4 жыл бұрын
Not at all. Its 'destructive behaviour' for attention, he needs to be more mentally stimulated. He tore up the second bed because his behaviour was reinforced the first time round, because after he destroyed his old bed, he got attention, then got a new bed, so he will repeat the pattern. He is a happy and healthy dog but hes clever, he needs to have toys and games that keep him busy. Like foraging toys etc. Dogs rarely destroy what they love, they destroy certain toys but not other toys because the ones they dont destroy are their favourites. When dogs destroy furniture etc it's usually because of boredom, separation anxiety or lack of attention. I'm not saying for one minute that Renee and her family arent giving pollux attention or doing their absolute best, its just that some dogs can be a bit more difficult. With Polluxes background it makes sense. He probably feels safe in that corner because it reminds him of his alone time when he grew up in the shelter, but deep down he doesnt actually like that memory so when he is sitting alone watching out the window he may be triggered to feel that same loneliness he felt in the shelter. Busy families have to get stuff done, but in the time that they are busy and on the go pollux may feel he needs attention, hes learned that destroying things gives him attention either from the shelter or at his new home. None of this isnt fixable and I could be wrong because I dont know how much time is spent one on one with pollux, it could be completely innocent and hes just enjoying destroying his bed but time will tell, if it is an attention behaviour he will get bored of destroying his bed and move onto other things. But all of this can be trained out of him so no matter what, pollux will be okay. Renee and her family certainly love him and will do what's right for him, on their terms. 😊
@Wob-rt1sc4 жыл бұрын
Jen Dark Energy 384400 100% agree. I have an 8 month old Newfie and she does exactly the same when she’s bored. I’m with her 24/7 but sometimes I need to get jobs done and she’ll pull her bed to bits, paddle in it and recently, squish and hump it 🥴I have not given her any attention for any behaviour relating to her bed. The destruction usually takes place overnight-possibly as she wakes earlier and gets bored until someone gets up.
@lisac73864 жыл бұрын
@@Wob-rt1sc My son has a dog that was a crazily aggressive chewer. While going through the chewing phase of puppy hood her tore everything up. It was not attention getting and his favorite toys actually were the ones he could tear up. He liked the unstuffing process which other dogs do also. I finally gave him a wool dryer ball. It is very densely packed wool so he can pull it apart, but much more slowly. And much cheaper than "indestructible" dog toys that last less than a few days.

He's just too darling for words! It's a testament to his character that he's doing so well after so long in the shelter! Since he's a crunchy guy, try giving him raw carrots. Most dogs love them. Start with a treat-sized piece and if he likes them you can give him whole ones... They make fantastic toothbrushes! Around here whole raw carrots are called doggie dessert ... One or two after each meal and everyone has clean and healthy teeth!

The bed tearing is an interesting conundrum. I wonder if he's "making his bed" so to speak, with the dining room being his den. One of our previous dogs used to dig his pillow before turning around in circles to lay down on it. It was as if he wanted to roll it up in a ball rather than laying on it flat. Pollux seems to be less camera shy. :) He also looks so much more relaxed and happy. :)

About a year ago, when everyone was looking for dogs bc they were on lockdown, my Mom was looking high and low for a pup to adopt. Every one she put an app in for, got selected for another family. She cried every time. They finally went to an adoption event a state over one day, in NJ, and she asked the staff, ‘is there a dog here no one wants?’ They ended up bringing Charley home that day, and he looks and acts just like Pollux!! I call him a Cattle Dog, which is a catch all term but those colors and spots are so similar! The funny thing is my Mom was looking for a small female and ended up with a 45lb male 🤣. Why were Pollux and Charley passed over time and again? All I can think is that they were waiting there for their perfect family ❤️❤️❤️

Sneezing can mean multiple things in dogs. Either to show excitement, that they are not actually being aggressive and just playing, or discomfort. Clearly, I'd say it was to show excitement/that they are just play fighting and not actually fighting. :) Very cute.

Renee, keep in mind that Pollux was in a cage all his life.. Humans opened the door and decided if he came out or not.. he is trained to not go through a door just because it is opened and trained to wait to hear the human tell him he can go through. (likely while they're standing at the door when telling him).. he is trained/conditioned that he doesn't get to choose it. to just sit and wait.. then he comes to your home and how does he go outside,, yep, when one of you humans hold the door open an say come on, let's go outside.. :)) i'm guessing the doggy door is the same in his brain.. he has to sit and wait.. if the human wants him to go through, they will hold the 'door; open and tell him.. I think that might be what you can work on, letting him know he can choose.. i would do it with meat.. a few times holding the door open and having tiny pieces of hamburgers or steak and call him through, he gets the steak, then with the door closed, and a leash on him, put the leash through the door, hold the steak toward the door calling him and gently pull him toward the door.. keeping his eyes on the steak.. do not loosen up on the leash.. let him adjust until he settles down a bit and call him again with the steak.. pull him closer and closer each time. gently pull him through the door even while he is resisting.. immediately give him the steak.. over and over he will start to want the steak more than he doesn't want to touch the door.. praising him after he goes through it will help him understand that you give him permission to go through it.. and is rewarded for going through it.. eventually the reward will be praise.. he will be so happy.. he is doing what he is trained/conditioned and you will have to do 'actually training' steps to help him.. You are so good with him. you are such a blessing. ooxoxoxo

We have a rescue that acts a lot like Pollux she grew up in a kennel and we got her when she was 5 months old. They did not learn from their Mom how to do stuff. You might try putting a treat outside of the doggy door where he can see it and see if that will motivate him. If he goes through to get it then put one on the inside and see if he will come back in. As for the pool you might try putting some of his rubber toys in it without water and if he will get in then try it with some water and see if he will go in after them. Some dogs just don't like water.

Just found your videos - what strikes me is his ears: how perked up they are when he plays and when he reacts with you all. Your family has obviously made a huge difference for this pup!

Hi! I'm loving watching Pollox & his lovely owner! This story of a dog being in a shelter all his life, & this lovely family rescues him. Just watching his gorgeous personality come out & becoming confident in the real world and a happy loving home. I also truly believe that Maxi has helped a lot with interaction & play. We have a gentle Saluki & are thinking of rescuing a companion for him. Watching two dogs play & grow close together is wonderful. Thank you for this continuing story & hope Pollox carries on thriving with your love!

I just found your blogs about Pollux and Maxxie. I love them. We are dog lovers and owners of two “large” dogs who both are the stars in our skies. And one of our dogs has difficulties with Anxiety. The destruction of household items is a dead giveaway of Anxiety. Considering Pollux’s past it is no surprise. We are lucky to have an Animal Behaviorist (Dog Psychiatrist) locally and we have been able to control most of the Anxiety. Our dog still has her moments and has destroyed a couple of pads for her kennel but all in all the behaviorist has been the best thing ever for all of us - especially our sweet girl.

Great video! Pollux is such a ham … and such a great brother to Maxxie. It’s been a pleasure watching Maxxie come out of his shell and welcome Pollux into his territory. God bless you for rescuing Pollux from his doomed life in the shelter ❤️ he just needed a chance and you gave him that!

They are so precious, love them. My Caviler was raised in and kept in a crate the first five years of his sweet life as a breed dog he was afraid of everything as the must have been really mean to him, I'm so happy Pollux is coming along so well. Rory is much slower, I've had him one year he now loves me when he's not sleeping, he's with me he doesn't know how to play with anything, will follow me around outside we are learning to walk on a leash but get to for away from the door he gets scared and wants to go back to it., He has excepted my one Granddaughter that's it anyone else comes in he gives them a bark and heads for his crated. I could tell you a lot more but I'm sure I've said enough. Love and best wishes you my curly curl lady you like my curly headed girl that went to heaven 26 years ago.. Shelia and Rory

I am so happy that Pollux has such a loving mommy who is so patient and kind with him. I also want to thank you for my “gray hair and I don’t care” tee. It is super soft and comfy. I love the design and I’ve had compliments not only from my husband but even my granddaughter who is three years old.?she loves the sun on it!

Thank you for taking him in to your home. He is so gentle with Max when they play. Your family has given a broken puppy a great place to heal. He is hilarious with the booty move.

Great video! I love that Pollux is making his own way by watching Maxx and looking for guidance from you. The booty is him showing submission to Maxx since he was there first. Just a way of being respectful. You might give him 2 or three pieces of fruit mixed together and let him pick what he wants. You might try bath toys in his baby pool. Motivate him a little to get in. Thanks for the update!

Pollux is sooooo lucky!! We have a new rescue that is settling in - we’re in the two month mark- he had been with the same family for SIX yrs until owner died- ended up in the shelter & was scheduled to be put down because he was biting- duh - now we have have this beautiful 8 lb long haired cutie ( something I said I would NEVER have ( and we adore him) and he’s really bonded with our 11 yr old partially blind shih tzu- never say never!💕💕

It was so lovely to see an update on Pollux!!! And to also see Maxie! They are both such happy, happy dogs. Thank you so much for giving them such a happy home. I think some dogs are just chewers (but it seems Pollux doesn't chew on his upstairs bed, right? Maybe something about the smell of the fabric?). We once bought our dog a paddling pool when it got really warm one summer (we don't have a pool, the weather isn't quite up to having one in the Northwest of England). The only person that went into the paddling pool was me - getting very cold feet. But curiously enough our dog jumps into our local little river and swims in it and it's really cold all year round, so I never could figure out why she didn't use the paddling pool. Please keep us all posted with further updates. It's such a joy to see Pollux and Maxie!!!

He’s so adorable! Have you thought about taking him to a trainer just to get over some of his anxiety? I take my dog to daycare a few times a month as she has anxiety as well. I find it has helped so much socially. Just a suggestion ❤️🐶 they’re both very precious 😊
