'Carol-Anne' died of congenital stenosis, and 'Dana' was murdered by her estranged boyfriend. *edit-- (forgotten, added bonus) the character 'Pugsley' (construction worker) was murdered with an axe to the head by an ex-con who wanted steal his car. The guy with the mustache on the TV was Gene Shalit. He did movie and other reviews for years. Now for a story... I saw this movie as a kid, shortly after it came out on vhs. It was during a sleepover at a friend's house and they had rented it. Well, it shook us kids up pretty well. Then we went to bed shortly after the movie was over. My friend had two beds against opposite walls of the room. The guest bed was the one under the window. He also had stuffed animals on it. As luck would have it, one was a clown, though neither as large nor as frightening as the one in the movie. Naturally I dropped it off the bed rather than have it up there looking at me all night. Screams woke me up out of a dead sleep. My friend was sitting up screaming his head off. His parents and older brother burst in to find out what was going on. Turned out the clown had landed on the floor and against the bed practically standing up. My friend had woken up and saw the clown standing there looking at him. He called me a couple of times and when I didn't respond, he thought the clown had killed me and was coming for him next.

Visiting military members will do the same when the US National Anthem is played at morning colors. Not much different than the fans being respectful for both the US and Canadian anthems being played at hockey games when teams from each country face off. The props department would have spent a fortune making realistic enough prop corpses so it was the 80’s… JoBeth and the crew had no idea they were real human skeletons until after shooting which freaked them out. The same thing was done for Poltergeist II The Other Side, and Will Sampson (Taylor), a real Native American medicine man, did a Native American exorcism on the set, just in case. Lots of people believe there was a curse because Heather O’Rourke died of an illness before filming Poltergeist III finished, and Dominique Dunn (Dana) from the first film, was murdered. Star Wars merchandise was everywhere for about ten years . The first really mass produced “topic” of any campaign . Like how u can find anything with everything printed on it . Star Wars was soo popular the demand for merchandise was massive and we all had shirts sheets and anything we could find back then . I was born in 68’. My Generations youth were raised on Star Wars . Poltergeist and close encounters were some of the scariest . So fun watching u guys watch . All we had was the theater . A world where we could watch Star Wars at our own convenience never existed . Made it even more special I feel . We had to go back again and again to theatre to rewatch a movie. .no vhs no computers . U guys are so lucky to see a whole catalogues of hits for the first time spanning literally decades . Ive seen them alll . Now multiple multiple times . Just so u k ow they need er get tiring . U can rewatch this stuff over and over for the rest of ur lives now . Imaging when ur fifty how many times u will see ur favorites from youth . These are all mine . It’s surreal watching people watch . I love it 🥰 Thanks . U and ur brother are silly and off the cuff don’t take your selves too seriously and have fun while letting us tag along for the ride . Thanks again .

Oh yes!!!! One of my all time favorite movies! Only sad thing is the dead bodies in the movie are real. The actress had no IDEA until after she filmed her scenes. And most of the cast had horrible experiences after the movie was made. The oldest daughter murdered and Carolane Died. I can go into more on how she really died. All together after the film 13 people died Cast and Crew. Movie was def Cursed

The skeletons were real but they were properly cleaned and for scientific purposes. So technically no longer bodies just bones

The sequel also deserves a look, with a memorable villain played by Julian Beck

Yes, Poltergeist II explains the first movie pretty well. You can skip part III though.

Poltergeist 3 was stupid and a waste of the actors and actresses talent.

I currently live in Wisconsin, and there was a small cemetery that was partially relocated back in the 70s to make room for a major thoroughfare in Milwaukee. Perhaps earlier, my grandmother told me that story.

Dude I love this movie but when I watched it as an adult it was after I had a niece for 6 years and the thought of her getting trapped someplace where we can't get her... had a good cry over that one 😂

I'm glad you guys finally got to see this film and your reactions are priceless. There have been all kinds of claims about whether Spielberg driectied or Tobe Hooper directed this film. We have to keep in mind that Spielberg was doing "E.T." just about the same time as this film was finishing up. Despite the rumblings going on that Spielberg actually directed the film and Hooper didn't, I heard that Hooper wanted to improve his directing chops after having been replaced as a director on 2 films prior to Poltergeist. Hooper and Spielberg admired each others works on each others TV Movies (Hooper directed the 2 part version of Stephen King's "Salems Lot" and Spielberg directed a short film in the TV series "Night Gallery" having the chance to direct the legendary Joan Crawford). So Spielberg lend a helping hand whenever Hooper felt he needed it which was often. After Poltergeist you can see in the remaining films that Hooper did how much improved his movies looked the way the actors acted and how he directed the movements of the camera. Compare "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" made in 1974 to the sequel made in 1986. There's quite a difference.

This was one of my favourite movies as a kid ,I remember my big sister trying to spook me by whispering " Carol Ann " at night in our room ,but it would just make me giggle ,because she couldn't do a southern accent very well(we are from the UK) .

Speaking of slither....that's a movie you should check out. Slither is an early James Gunn flick. Picked up a Fangoria "Chainsaw Award" for highest body count in 2006.

I'm glad you guys finished out October on my favorite horror movie of all time. Not only is it a really good scary movie, but what makes it extra scary is that there is a curse behind the movie. Look into it. You seem like a really cool guys. Always enjoy watching y'alls reactions. 😎💓🤘🏻

My sister , who was around 17, had/made me watch this when I was about the age of the son back in the mid 80s and it scarred me, and it became my favorite scary movie.

In Part II (not a great movie - but it has its moments) ... you find out more about who "The Beast" is ... and why so many souls were attached to him.

Some interesting facts: The girl who played Dana, the elder sister, was murdered shortly after the movie's release. Carol-Anne sadly died of a heart attack, aged 14 during filming of the third installment. The skeletons used were apparently real deceased people.
