I sat down to watch this movie with a friend and his mother whom I often watched movies with right after it came out on video. We got through the opening scene and I said "The Dad is the killer. He just doesn't know it." I was asked if I had seen the movie before, but I hadn't. I just figured any movie that wanted to be based around a mystery would have a twist ending, and it was the very obvious twist you would write. The same friend, when we watched Saw in theaters said: "Killer's probably the dead guy on the floor." So I guess he got me back.

David being Charlie, even back then, didn't surprise me that much. The movie's good at hiding that fact, except for one thing. All this weird stuff is happening around the house, he finds a dead cat in his bathtub, his daughters friend Charlie is recreating her mothers suicide crime scene, she's also not in the right mental state .... and David just locks himself in his office and puts headphones on? Even if there was no dead wife, dead cat or psycho Charlie grooming your kid, you would never leave your kids alone and blast music in your headset!

By the time I saw Hide and Seek, I had seen so many twist endings that I could spot the ending coming a mile away. I love a good twist, but it sucks being able to guess the ending long before you even reach the halfway point of a movie. At first, it's fun, because you guessed right, but after a while, you start to want to be wrong just to preserve the surprise. Unfortunately, for a twist to get me anymore, it has to be something completely random that is unguessable, and that's no fun either because it feels like the filmmakers are cheating. A good example of this would be the first Friday the 13th. The ending literally cones out of nowhere. I like that movie because I grew up with it, but were it to be released today, I'd just feel like I got ripped off.

I mean it makes sense for her to have split personality but I like for it NOT to be bad. Mainly because in the picture for the USA vs its smiling. Ita not creepy like Charlie was. People who do have DID or systems, have it because of server truama. Its not bad nor is it homicidal. Its just different personalities that help the "main" personality live through life. Most that have it can go through life just fine. So itd make sense that after all of this Emily has a personality that helps her acclimate to everyday life. Cause in reality she wpuld be in the hospital and in need of severe care. And dont get me wrong she still would if she did develop did but, itd make sense as to why she was able to go back to school and she is in care of a child psychiatrist who could have experience in this field.

😂 when I watched it back during the edit I looked so hard for that cat. Very easy to miss, well it was for me even after watching the movie 3 times in a row so I could make this video. But hey, thats why I've got y'all. Always end up missing something or need help putting the pieces all the way together.

Absolutely!!! He was great in "Trick 'r Treat". He is so good at playing psychologically evil characters.

I have FINALLY found a non-blaspheming commenter and I am so so so so HAPPY. I can't thank you enough for your clean speech; it means the absolute world to me! (and to Someone Else too). Also your insight is FANTASTIC. Do you prefer people giving their opinions in the comments? I gotta retroactively watch all of your stuff NOW! I got into your stuff through the Possum video and that was THE BEST piece of work on that very rough film that I have EVER seen. WELL DONE.

There is a 2012 film starring Mads Mikkelsen called "The Hunt". Which addresses the issue of children's credibility. If you are interested I would recommend this film to you. By the way 4:27 that was neat. 😄

I've never seen this movie, but the cat was definitely there earlier, it jumps scared the dad from the closet.

Great video yet again! Pro-tip! Since the actress' name is Dutch, probably best to see how the pronunciation is done with the Dutch setting as opposed to the English setting. As English setting will obviously pronounce it in the English way, but that's not how the Dutch pronounce it. Same goes with other languages 😊

I have a complicated experience with this movie. It was the first mature horror movie I ever saw. My friends had told me the entire story. All the suprises and all the spoilers. Then when er all watched the movie I was scared even if I knew everything that was going to happen. I was so scared that I could sleep the entire night and was afraid to wake up in the night and see the clock at 2:06. At the time I thought the split personality was a really creepy concept. When I grew up and became more intrested in horror movies I looked back on this movie. I realized that the twist didn’t work. The story is that the girl gets an imaginary friend and a bunch of wierd and dangerous happends that make the dad suspect that the imaginary friends is real. In the end it is revealed that it is the dad who has developed a split personality and is responable for everything. It feels like a cheap cop out. There are clues in the movie but no explanation to how he could develope an evil personality just like that. If it was set up better like he have struggled with mental health issues for years and now he snapped. But for what it is it feels like the filmmakers don’t take mental health issues seriously. I have to agree that the final ending feels like the best and it takes these issues more seriously.

I can see that, and it seems to be a lot of the reviews for the film. But after making this video I ended up liking the movie even more since I got to see just how good Dakota did throughout the movie. But yeah the alternate endings were the main reason I made the video, good follow up to 1408.
