There’s no denying how great it sounds! From this side of KZbin, it’s sounds more like a real amp than even some of your Fractal tones. I could see setting some core amp presets and throwing it in a rack with other effects and using midi to change combinations of device presets and sending it to a power amp and cab for a pretty powerful live rig. 🤘🤘
@BobGuidoАй бұрын
What makes this pedal especially unique is that it's the first capture player pedal that offers stereo (dual amps) operation. I would buy this instantly if I could load my own NAM captures into it. I think if you could load your own NAM captures into this, it would steal at least 20% of the ToneX/Kemper/Neural DSP Cortex market if not more. The sound quality is great and the design is especially great for folks who need stereo operation. The Dual Showman model sounds amazing as does the custom Zinky. Bruce Zinky designed the Fender Vibro King, which is an amp I own and one of my favorites for it's massive clean headroom. The Zinky custom amp has that signature Zinky tone, that I recognize from the Fender the Vibro King. I wish that Poly Ample had a good capture of my favorite #1 amp - 1990's (Korg era) Vox AC30TBX Top Boost with the alnico blue speakers. In my personal opinion (also shared by Mitch Colby, Justin York, Blues Saraceno and others) the 1990's Korg/Marshall manufactured Vox AC30TBX is the Holy Grail version of the Vox AC30 amplifier. These are the best ones ever made because they have great headroom for the best sounding chimey clean tones without sounding harsh/hard in the top end and stiff and boxy in the middle. The TBX also has a tighter/punchier bottom end that doesn't get flubby and muddy like vintage 1960's era Vox AC30's. The VoxAC30TBX is synonymous with the best Vox tones ever which is why Vox UK just reissued the TBX model, after years of people bitching for them to do it. The vintage 1964 Vox AC30 amps that The Edge uses have been modified with new transformers and much higher quality filter capacitors of lower value to smooth out that nasty treble, making it less ice pick in the eardrums and more airy. The high quality replacement transformer tightens up the flubby bottom, basically making The Edge's best amps sound closer to the Korg/Marshall era TBX models. I wish companies making amp-in-a-box pedals knew this.

I can't see why they couldn't expand this to allow a user bank. Would make it great.
@BobGuidoАй бұрын
@@LeonTodd A single user bank is all it would take for me to get one of these to pair up with the new Fractal VP4, which could seamlessly go in front of Ample or after!
@BobGuidoАй бұрын
@@LeonTodd Since this pedal does stereo, it would be cool to hear what some delay and cloud reverb from the Fractal Audio VP4 going in front of this, in stereo would sound like with the Dual Showman on one side and the Matchless DC30 or Bad Cat Hot Cat, or Vox AC30 on the other side for a real stereo rig with big effects in front.

I actually played a show last night using NAM for the first time. First show I've ever done without an amp. Like you say, set and forget. I had a Friedman Smallbox plexi with an ownhammer cab IR and some convolution plate reverb. Running off a Raspberry Pi 4. Drive controlled off my LP volumes like you can do so nicely with a plexi. A tone no one could tell in a blind test from the actual $2.8k amp coming out of the PA. The fact that the current state-of-the-art capture is open source means that we can expect this great little Poly pedal to be the first of many devices implementing NAM. I suspect it's going to pretty much erase the dedicated proprietary capture devices. Because the likes of Nux will be able to soon simply include a NAM player in their multi-fx once the processing power is there. It'll sound literally better (if imperceptibly) for a fraction of the cost. We're rapidly approaching the moment where budget beginner boxes will be completely indistinguishable in tone and dynamics from tube amps that cost thousands.

Just the next toy tone hype... A single - not even perfectly well captured - snapshot of eg. an AC-30 or 1959 does not make much sense to me, as little as only a fixed matching cabinet capture in comparison with the options, a real amp and real, different cabinets, speakers and microphones offer. Lousy, completely impractical user interface too! Not even a display, which shows you, which amp and cabinet you are playing. Digital stone age 2024? But certainly a cash cow for this company, if I consider the price for such a computer pedal. Applied farmer trapping for me. But ok, people obviously love to be fooled. Not my circus, not my monkeys...
