Polyandry in Hatti community in Himachal Pradesh | हाटी समुदाय की द्रोपदी या जोड़ीदारी प्रथा

During a visit to the Trans Giri area of Himachal Pradesh, the MBB team learned about the Hatti or Hattee community. In this community, women hold a unique and prominent role as the undisputed head of the family, with authority over household matters. Furthermore, the team discovered that it is common for men within the community to share a common wife, a practice known as polyandry. This practice of polyandry, prevalent in the Himalayan region, is often linked to the economic challenges faced by the local population. Polyandry has been a long-standing tradition in certain areas of Himachal Pradesh, and its impact on the lives of hill people has been significant across various aspects of their daily activities. This suggests that the practice of polyandry is deeply rooted in the culture and socio-economic conditions of the region, making it an important aspect of their way of life.

मैं भी हाटी समुदाय से ताल्लुक रखता हूं, लेकिन अब यह प्रथा हमारे समुदाय में बंद हो चुकी है। यह प्रथा बहुत पहले होती थी। मैने तो अपने क्षेत्र में ऐसी कोई शादी नही देखी है अपने जन्म से लेकर अभी तक , जहां जोड़ीदारी प्रथा हो। लेकिन यह बात सच है हाटी समुदाय के लोग सुंदर ,स्वच्छ, ठंडे पहाड़ों में बसते है। अगर आप सुबह सो के उठते हो तो आपके खिड़की के सामने सुंदर पहाड़ों की श्रंखला का नजारा दिखाई देता है। इन क्षेत्रों में अगर सरकार पर्यटन को बढ़ावा दे तो ये क्षेत्र किसी हिल पर्यटन सिटी से कम नही है। आपका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद जो हमारे हाटी समुदाय के उपर आपने ये डॉक्यूमेंट्री बनाई 🙏
