I started writing this song near the beginning of June 2022 (I wonder why then???) and initially it started off a lot softer than this. It also started out a lot more cheerful, and celebratory (which to an extent it still is that), but in the face of everything happening around me, it didn't feel meaningful in that state. I don't mention it all too often but I am bisexual and genderfluid, and started gender affirming treatment with HRT in mid-late 2021. I guess that last part is the first time I'm *publically* saying that, so yay! But regardless, you might imagine the fear and anger that has been present with me for a while now. For a lot of you, there's no need for imagination, you've felt it too. And with the current discourse surrounding our lives, it's kind of hard not to let that fester. That's kind of what influced the song to turn to what it is now. It's "I'm here, I'm not going anywhere, and I won't let anybody change that if I have a say about it".
