What is a hyperpolyglot?
@PolyglotSecrets2 жыл бұрын
@@wenderwalker8306 I recently became a member of HYPIA, The International Association of Hyperpolyglots. We define it as “a person who is fluent in six or more languages.” However, we expand our association to include persons who are conversant in eight or more languages. Still, others might define it differently. At the end of the day, labels don't matter nearly as much as the passion for languages that we all share. 😀

Me too, my friend. This is my biggest dream 💕💕💕
@ernestorevollar3632 Жыл бұрын
Hi again Stefani 💜, how's everything? Let me tell you that I hold on to the conviction of becoming a polyglot so far. I'd love to be one more for the polyglot community one day. I know that it'll require a long time, but I still believe that I can do it. It needs lots of discipline, willingness, passion, motivation and so on. Any type of difficulties shouldn't hold me back with my big desire of learning languages. I wanna move on to my target languages immediately. 1) English 🇺🇲. In my personal case, English is my first linguistic love, especially because I really love the American culture, history and obviously the American accent. I decided to learn it five years ago because I did set up the main goal of achieving the English fluency someday in order to change my life forever. Until then, I'm too mindful of it. English is the world's easiest language to pick up in my opinion due to its huge ease of learning by absorbing plenty of skills at any aspect such as grammar, grammatical patterns, vocabulary, pronunciation, among others. English is the undisputed universal language nowadays we need to learn. I'm still growing in my English journey non-stop through so many language learning resources. It'll be improving the health of my brain, because learning a second language and being a bilingual individual or even a multilingual person is too rewarding and crucial to staying healthy and smart throughout my lifetime. It's absolutely beneficial. 2) Spanish 🇪🇦. Well, this one needs no explanation because it is my first language. I don't speak a lot whatever the language, though. Spanish is much harder than English grammatically, but it's pronounced the same way it is spelled which makes its pronunciation easier than English's one. Vocabulary is quite straightforward to acquire because comes from Latin. It's worth learning definitely and it's really popular worldwide, although not as much as English. 3) French 🇫🇷. This language is interestingly so beautiful when it comes to listening to it. French grammar, vocabulary and so on are really helpful and easy to acquire I guess, but its pronunciation can be tricky, and even more if we never practice it. After all, French is an international language that is worthy of being learned and appreciated. 4) German 🇩🇪. German seems to be too hard to learn but I think it's got to be straightforward to acquire, even though it has a tricky grammar which contains declensions and regarding its vocabulary, the task of learning it would be quite difficult because of its Germanic roots unlike Latin-based languages. German pronunciation can sound relatively aggressive but I don't buy it. It's an amazing language that is worthy of being learned because I really like it. 5) Italian 🇮🇹. This lovely language has several pleasant features, for example its pronunciation is quite straightforward to acquire because it's pronounced the same way it is written. Learning its grammar and vocabulary is a piece of cake. It's worth learning, sure thing. 6) Russian 🇷🇺. This one is also a beautiful language even though seems to be so difficult to learn. Its grammar is quite hard, it is indeed and much more than German's one. Russian pronunciation is challenging but not that difficult. I guess its vocabulary is really tough to absorb because of its Slavic roots but it's worth it. It uses the Cyrillic alphabet (easy to learn by the way) which is close to the Latin alphabet. Let's learn it. 7) Portuguese 🇧🇷. The language is absolutely stunning because of its pronunciation which is beautiful and a little hard to acquire too. Learning grammar and vocabulary is not that difficult either, is actually simple. It is even more if you already speak Romance languages. Learning it is pretty useful as well. 8) Turkish 🇹🇷. This one is quite interesting and engaging to learn and relatively overwhelming too. Turkish pronunciation is not that hard I think, but it'll require a lot of practice. I have no clue how its grammar is because it is apparently unfamiliar if we compare it to the languages I mentioned above. The same goes for its vocabulary. After all, it's worth learning. 9) Ukrainian 🇺🇦. This language is engaging in terms of pronunciation whether it is spoken or heard. However it's tough to learn grammatically because is so related to Russian at that aspect, the same goes for its vocabulary which has a bunch of Slavic roots, but it's certainly worthy of being learned even if it is unnecessary for many people but I don't care about that. 10) Romanian 🇷🇴. This is undoubtedly a beautiful language and seems to be a Slavic language but it's actually a Romance language. It has many similarities with Spanish, Italian and Portuguese in terms of vocabulary for sure and pronunciation because Romanian is pronounced the same way it is written just like them. Its grammar is tricky because presumably you find out declensions which makes it hard to handle but with plenty of practice and patience shouldn't be hard anymore. I think it would be my second linguistic love after English of course. Finally, that was it, I just wanna move forward with this, and I'll need to be prepared and willing to overcome a great deal of problems into my language learning journey. There will always be several mistakes but there's nothing wrong with them, it's completely normal if we trip up unavoidably during our progress, we need to learn from them to keep on improving over and over again.

Brava.

Hi Stefani! I have just discovered your channel, and I truly love the content! I myself speak 4 languages and am learning 2 more. I am thrilled to discover you are Bulgarian, as this is the language I would like to learn next. Have you ever done reactions on celebrities speaking Bulgarian, especially those who are living abroad? My first inspiration to learn Bulgarian was Nina Dobrev, so I was just curious how well she and celebrities like her actually speak the language.
@PolyglotSecrets Жыл бұрын
Welcome! How cool that you are learning Bulgarian! This is definitely not a common language to pick - it makes me happy that you chose it. :) Regarding the reactions - I haven't done it, as I don't really know that many celebrities besides Nina that speak it (although some people in the sports world come to mind as I type this). Might be a good idea for a future video! I'd say Nina speaks it well from a grammatical POV, but her accent is a bit off and she speakers a bit slowly (words coming slowly to her, I imagine) - which is normal, considering she grew up in an English-speaking environment. But on the other hand, she makes no mistakes! I'd bet she's much better when she spends some time in Bulgaria and then, perhaps, being back in the US/Canada leaves her a bit out of practice. 🤷♀

I have to say that I really enjoyed watching this awesome video. It turned out to be very helpful and entertaining. Speaking multiple languages is in my opinion a cherished gift that we might have, sure thing. As I've said several times, learning any language takes a long time, it's obviously a long-term commitment. It's also important to stick around when learning any language through so many language learning resources such as KZbin videos, language learning classroom, textbooks and so on. Furthermore, having a self-study plan can help us a lot, but if not, that's okay, we're not always gonna have plenty of free time due to our busy lives. We're not gonna be perfect at speaking languages because making mistakes are part of our learning process. Becoming a polyglot is impossible overnight, we need a long time to do so. We need to work a lot on mastering pronunciation, remembering key grammar rules, speaking the language confidently and fearlessly, learning new vocabulary little by little without trying to memorize it, comes to us naturally and gradually. Let's not forget that writing in a new language is always powerful as well. Everything makes sense, it is important to grow a lot in the language we are learning. The difficulty of any language shouldn't intimidate us, because our interest is endless. My passion is starting to learn another eight languages aside from English and Spanish, because I just wanna draw up real goals for my future into the language learning field regardless of the main approaches of my career which is other topic. ❤😊

I really admire multilingual people, you are a talent. But it's a big mistake ppl think that just because a person has a "gift" it's easier because no, you have to study a lot to reach a goal, for talented people like Stefani, maybe less time is all that. Seu sotaque de português com certeza é mais parecido com o de Portugal. Se você falar dessa maneira aqui no Brasil, as pessoas irão te confundir com uma portuguesa mas você fala muito bem! 日本語を話すことを学んでください。私の第二言語です。あなたが日本語を話すのを見てみたいです。(Please learn to speak japanese it is my second language and I would love to see you speak it.) You are doing a very good job speaking these languages. Sobre todo tu castellano es muy bueno y se nota por la sonrisa en tu cara como te gusta el idioma y la cultura hispanoparlante. Dieses Gefühl vermittelst du auf Portugiiesisch etwas weniger und wenn du Deutsch sprichst, dann merkt man, dass du die Sprache an der Schule über viel Druck gelernt hast. Ich wünsche mir, du findest eines Tages genau diese Leidenschaft für Deutsch wie du sie für Spanisch hast. I love to hear you speak Bulgarian. It sounds really smooth to my ears, way smoother than the Bulgarian I've heard once in a while. Your English is flawless and anybody listening to you will notice the exposure you've had to this language. Good luck with your language learning.

Tengo una pregunta para usted ¿Cuál fue su mayor desafío, tanto con su primer amor, como con su segundo amor linguístico, español y griego?
@PolyglotSecrets2 жыл бұрын
¡Buena pregunta! Con el español, fueron las variedades regionales. Aprendí el castellano de España y cuando hablé con latinoamericanos en los Estados Unidos, tuve muchas situaciones embarazosas con algunas palabras peninsulares. Con el griego, el vocabulario sería el mayor reto. Es muy diferente del vocabulario de otros idiomas que hablo. Apenas hay cognados o raíces comunes.

I don't really use my languages for work. I only use English these days; I used to use Spanish, but not any more. So work is definitely not the reason I learn languages. I pick them based on different reasons, it's usually a cultural reason - I am a very passion-based language learner. If I don't feel some sort of pull towards a language, I never pick it up. There always has to be a reason and in my case, it's never work. :)

Thanks! Well, I am currently studying too many at the same time (and potentially beginning Persian very soon). So I have a lot on my plate. Hi! Ukrainian is here. I didn't understand nothing in Bulgarian. Just over 5 words. Knowledges of three Slavic languages (Ukrainian, Russian, Polish) didn't help me even if Russian has Bulgarian vocabulary. Mais je parles français et j'ai juste commencé à 'apprendre l'espagnole, le portugais et l'italien. Donc j'ai compris presque tout en ces langues.

I think it’s the articles that get in the way. They change the whole word, as they are basically extra syllables. Also, I believe Bulgarian is closest to Serbian - perhaps that Balkan Sprachbund complicates it a bit. 🤷🏻♀️By the way, written Bulgarian would be easier than spoken for sure.
@andrewshepitko6354 Жыл бұрын
@@PolyglotSecrets Yes. Bulgarian is closer to Serbian. It sounds the same way. For Ukrainian speakers South Slavic languages are not understandable, maybe just Croatian, but West Slavic languages are easy.

@@PolyglotSecrets Old Slavic roots it is not about Russian. They have similar words because of Church Slavonic language that is actually a dialect of Old Bulgarian. Church Slavonic is the language used in church services. So with the advent of Orthodoxy Russians (Muscovites at that time) picked up that language.

Hi I would love advice...how to know if I am progressing and making any learning in my languages. What am I doing wrong because I start, I try to get a routine, but I admit I have so many resources that I'm not even sure where to start, then I feel like so overwhelmed. How to start with a Language learning plan or routine?
@PolyglotSecrets2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question! This is a common problem in today's world because we have way too many options. A lot of older polyglots talk about how back in the day, you would find a book or two and be ecstatic about it. Now, there's so much choice. I suggest to start with one resource only - pick 1 and stick with it. Once you are done with it, then you start with another. That really helps with the confusion. And don't worry about picking the "right one" - there is no best resource, you will find out what is best FOR YOU through practice. Good luck! I hope that helps :)

Great video, however you need to practice more your french pronunciation, I recommend you using shadowing and reading a lot y practicar y distinguir mejor las doble rr y la r, solo ese pequeño error en español, los demás idiomas están bien
@PolyglotSecrets Жыл бұрын
Ah yes, for sure, I will be the first one to admit that about my French. And the R in Spanish is definitely a leftover from my native language, which has a very strong R in it. All in all though, I am not aiming for native-like pronunciation. I can always work on it and improve it, but I usually prioritize richness of expression.
