CarRanger was a comedy Sentai, heavy on puns and physical comedy. However in Japan the audience was used to the new season of Sentai being only loosely connected to the previous one only by being the next group. OhRanger had comedy, to break the serious main story. CarRanger was 95% goofy with a sprinkle of drama. OhRanger was indeed one of the most overpowered teams. The theme was the villains were very overpowered as well. Then CarRanger was literally a space criminal hot rod gang. I agree that Zeo to Turbo was pretty ho-hum but the series weren't meant to connect. I think when the US started Power Rangers In Space they got a better understanding that carrying over characters has to be done delicately and new rosters are the simplest way to not get things too complicated.

This wasn't always the case as some seasons had things like Animals, Science, Cars (Turboranger did it first!), Constellations with Changeman btw this was part of a trilogy known by us as the Space Saga as all those season had space themed rangers. Jetman definately had the military theme in it heavily and it was largely an homage to Gatchaman.

You seem to not realize that Zeo had a reduced budget due to declining ratings, so they couldn't do really as much. This is a big reason why the show shifted over to using a lot more sentai material. It was a cost cutting measure.

The Ohrangers series was an anniversary special and the costumes looked a lot like the Gorangers. it was supposed to be a dark series but there were terrorist attacks and natural disasters in Japan, so they rewrote the series to make it less dark. That's why we have dance scenes

Those little teaser mini-episodes really had me hooked as a kid, I remember how big of a deal it was when the command center blew up and we were all trying to figure out what happened in school and on the playground. Well, those of us anyways who hadn't suddenly 'outgrew' Power Rangers and were 'too cool' for it anymore. We were in the 4th grade at the time, and you just hoped that your VCR timer was set up correctly that day to catch the teaser. Between that, and the 'Earth Shattering' teasers for the 3 part Season 2 with Lord Zedd events, that was some serious business in the MMPR/Zeo era.

The reason why we got some light-hearted stuff in a series that started out seriously is real-life events. The series premiered on March 3rd, 1995. On March 20, 1995, there was the Tokyo subway sarin attack which was the deadliest terrorist incident in Japan.

Actually, Kat did morph into the Pink Zeo Ranger once briefly in the Turbo Movie before they got their Turbo forms. As I recall, she was jumping from atop of a waterfall for some reason and she had to morph to survive the drop.

ohranger, while not being the first to have sentai generational crossover, was the one that cemented the "non-consequencial" worldbuilding that most later season follow, with gokaiger being the clearest example (where, at the same time, goseiger ep 50 finishes in early 2011, gokaiger episode 1 is in late february 2011, but in the middle there were both a goseiger film, the 199heroes battle with relative undefined amounts of days where the various robot got trashed, AND the following 3 years passed to recover them. plus percorrence times)

Johnny Yong Bosch has reported that in a deleted scene where Tanya and Adam go to save Jason and Kimberly, they lose their Zeo Powers a la Ninja Quest Part 1 but some of it was transferred to a reserve generator to be turned into the Turbo Powers later in the movie. Zordon also explained that when time was reset after the Zeo Crystal was gathered that their personal histories would change to suit what happened in the past. Hence Tanya’s backstory and surname.

Jackie Marchand, a writer for Zeo, years later, said in an interview that if they known the plot of the Turbo movie, they would have wrapped things up properly and ended the Zeo powers.

I think in large part the reason ZEO just kind of vanished was because.. When USA Zeo was in production.. Car Robo was going full steam in Japan.. While Zeo was in production.. Turbo a Power Ranger Movie was in full original USA and no reused Japan footage.. We all know how well that did in the Box office.. Also probably explains why Zeo just kind of vanished too..

Normally the first crossover (with the prior series) takes place in the first two thirds of a series. So, the Carranger/Ohranger would take place during the Carranger series, and not the Ohranger series. Your assessment that ZEO's ending was confusing, strange, and incomplete. As a Power Rangers fanatic, myself, it seemed like you ended your review of ZEO at season one and did not address season 2 at all. The season ended well with Jason having to give up his powers or basically die. Remember, Jason was the one that took over the Gold Ranger Powers. He has to give the powers back to Trey of Triforia in order to save himself. Trey then enlarges ALL the rangers to fight King Mondo directly. It was one of my most favorite scenes b/c I loved the rangers taking on the villain face to face compared to most other boss battles. Zed & Rita blow up King Mondo after he retreats from the fight along w/ his army on the moon. The season ended well with the teens set up to continue on w/ school and life as normal. Jason had his woman, Emily and Tommy had his, Kat. You did an alright job providing synopsis of Chōriki Sentai Ohranger, but that ZEO breakdown left a lot to be desired.

Masked Rider was so bad, the creator of Kamen Rider refused to allow the series to be brought to the US ever again. It's actually amazing we got Kamen Rider Dragon Knight at all (although it was MUCH better then the pile of trash that was Masked Rider in the US).

Great review. I wish that the show would of adapt the comic book version of Zeo, it would of be better than it is now. I love Zeo but it would at more oomph to the season. The end was anticlimatic though.

Ohranger was disappointing to me, most of the episodes are about them helping kids or that crazy ass family. I feel it could have been really great but kinda fell flat with character development. But the suits and mecha were great looking.
