First heard "Pompton Turnpike" as a kid, on the radio, probably the early 1960s, either on Martin Block's version of "Make Believe Ballroom" or possibly Joe Franklin? The reason it resonated with me was simply the title. The (Newark) Pompton Turnpike was the main road in our town - about 8 miles north of the big band club, Frank Daly's Meadowbrook. Thanks for making it available on KZbin!

When I was the same age, 51pogo, I had a sister 12 years older and a brother 10 years older, who were swing and jazz enthusiasts, and the call and response between the clarinet and trumpet stayed in my minds since. I liked Charlie Barnet, his band had good arrangements.

Although there's no singing on this, Isn't that a young Frank Sinatra in the center background of this video?
@NewFrontier4.0 Жыл бұрын
No. Sinatra was with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey bands. Never Charlie Barnett

Should be named "The Annoying Clarinet". Sounds like a whiny clarinet to me. And Sirius plays this song CONSTANTLY on the 40s station.
