well it's an actual gourd chekere instead of the fiberglass type so it was prob made by some artisan somewhere. The gourd chekeres sound better and more organic but are more vulnerable to breaking.

I haven't listened extensively to Poncho Sanchez's music, but on his album "Afro Cuban Fantasy", the title track is similar to this one. The whole album is great Latin jazz.
